Plex doesn't recognize folders if their name starts with "..."

Server Version#: 1.26.0.1531-92029e9e

I’m not sure if this is a bug or just a general limitation when it comes to folder naming.

I ripped Sting’s album called “…Nothing Like the Sun” and put in into the following folder structure:

Music
| - Sting
| - | - ...Nothing Like the Sun

When I asked Plex to search the library, there was no change, it’s as if this folder didn’t exist, it didn’t pick it up at all. Once I removed the 3 dots and just renamed it to “…Nothing Like the Sun”, it worked fine.

TL;DR: leave out the leading dots from folder and file names, but retain them in embedded meta tags.

Yes, it is normal. Plex is available for a lot of platforms. And on all Unix-based platforms a folder or file name which starts with a dot means “this is intended to be invisible”.
So Plex will ignore it – even when running on Windows.
