Plex DVR Guide/EPG not Updating

Going to have to leave this for now and try again later -hopefully when it is all fixed. I shall keep looking at the alternatives to Gracenotes though.

yep, maybe that will lead to a solution before I miss an episode of something!

if you find something that works, please share!

I don’t seem to be affected by this outage this time. I’ve got Guide Data all the way till 6AM - Saturday, Jun 22.

My DVR is set to Freeview, I think it was previously Local over the Air Broadcast when I originally made this forum post. Any idea if Enhanced Guide downloads more guide listings as well as the Richer information for some shows and movies? Only two things I can think of, that I’ve changed.

Freeview gave me a couple of incorrect channel numbers so I swapped to “local over the air”.

Either way, I don’t get that far in trying to set ups my DVR (I deleted it and tried to start again when I thought the problem was with me).

Have you tried “refresh”? Its possible it’s not working for you either but you had already got 2 weeks ahead downloaded.

I’ll have a go when I get home. Probably just got it all downloaded as you said!

Ah, glad it’s not just me. I rebuilt Plex onto a new server last night and the DVR failed to set up; this afternoon, it’s completed setup but the guide is empty and won’t refresh.

Like above, think mine is showing because i already had data in there

Just tried a manual refresh, usually this adds thousands of new entries, downloaded 68 new entries

Just spotted the time stamp on the Plex status page: Jun 13, 16:22 PDT (21:22 for us in the UK).

Used to use them lots with WMC.
Worked well, and inexpensive

I’ve had a reply from @sa2000 saying as much as not much can be done about it! Unless I read it wrong, as I do, but as Plex pass users we deserve a fix!

Yes, it’s frustrating, but sometimes these are the problems that arise with 3rd party services. I’m sure Plex wants the issue taken care of immediately as well, but it’s probably out of their hands.

When they move to the new EPG provider, it sounds like they want to ingest the data first and then relay it out, which maybe would prevent issues like this in the future. Or at least allow them to fix the issue instead of relying on someone else.

The issue was resolved 2 hours ago.

Please let me know if there are still guide update / refresh failures (with debug logs)

It “completing,” but it doesn’t seem to actually be updating anything. Just keeps downloading the same few thousand airings when it should be in the tens of thousands.

Thanks for the logs. I cannot see any issue. Looking at refreshes of the guide after 15:40 GMT (Your server time 10:40), i can see no errors in the request to refresh. I suspect there was a lot of cached data held by Plex Media Server

Was there an actual issue ?
If the guide data was wrong, please get me the database files as well as logs covering a new refresh

To get the database, shutdown Plex Media Server and copy out these files

tv.plex.providers.epg.onconnect-41866ad0-64c0-402a-88ba-8918ac57f9a1.db
tv.plex.providers.epg.onconnect-41866ad0-64c0-402a-88ba-8918ac57f9a1.db-wal
tv.plex.providers.epg.onconnect-41866ad0-64c0-402a-88ba-8918ac57f9a1.db-shm

from directory
/var/lib/plexmediaserver/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Plug-in Support/Databases/

zip the files together with the logs covering a refresh

I only need to see this if the guide data has an issue

Thanks

It appears to complete the process, but it “downloads” just under 8000 listings. I have 202 channels and it usually downloads tens of thousands of listings. Currently it’s just racing through the process to 100% and completing, but if I go to tonight, I eventually run into almost every channel showing “unknown airing.” If I go to tomorrow morning, it appears to only have information for 11 of my channels.

I have 2 programs recording right now, so I won’t be able to post a copy of the database for just a bit, but I will do so if refreshing the guide after a PMS restart doesn’t work.

EDIT:

Okay, recordings are finished. I restarted PMS and tried a guide refresh with the same result. Attached is what you asked for.

See my edited post above.

Well, I think I know what’s causing my issue. I went into the channel listing for my tuner and it looks like it looks like the guide I had previously choosen (my local cable company) is now only showing a handful of channels to match to what I actually receive, so it’s only downloading these.

I guess my only option is to delete the tuner and try to re-add it hoping that it shows all available channels again?

EDIT: So I removed the tuner and re-added it, but it looks like the information for my cable company had changed. Instead of showing all channels actually available, it’s now only show 20 or so (basic cable, essentially). Not sure what happened, but clearly and issue with the EPG provider.

@Noah0504 I doubt that’ll fix the issue as it’s a Gracenote issue, I’ve tried changing the so called lineups and channels still missing that are being transmitted from the Wenvoe Transmitter.
They really need to sort themselves out, is not a caching issue anymore, it’s a EPG issue full stop.
If you do delete the DVR and start again with a different hand picked lineup, let us know how you get on, but I have my doubts!!

Dave

Right, once I saw that, I knew it was a Gracenote issue for sure, but I guess it was wishful thinking that maybe they changed the name of the lineup or something along those lines.

I did delete, but the problem persists, so I either just have to wait and lose out on DVR functionality, pick another lineup that won’t include nearly the same channels, or switch to a XMLTV guide for now (which is probably what I’ll do).
