Instructions seems pretty straight-forward, but I was hoping I wouldn’t be needing the USB to stay connected… there is no way to “install” it to stay in the TV? via SSH, or FTP or similar instead?

I’m afraid that will not be possible. You have to leave the USB stick on the TV (that’s one reason why I do not like this solution).

Mine didn’t seem to update automatically, so I deleted my 2.008 version yesterday and went to the “app store” again and installed it, and I now got version 2.012 …

Is it only available for different TV versions?

It can be. I have the model UE46ES8090.
