The library is using the new Plex movie agent, so that is the only choice. You can search with the IMDB or TMDB ID to assist in matching. Use the ID instead of the title (ex: imdb-tt0112178).

See Migrating a TV library to use the new Plex TV Series Agent/Scanner for additional details.

Note that the new agent also supports putting IMDB and TMDB IDs in the file name to assist with matching. Plex will use the IDs instead of the movie name to match things.

Example:
/Movies/Batman Begins (2005) {imdb-tt0372784} /Batman Begins (2005) {imdb-tt0372784}.mp4

Additional Information:

Okay, thanks but i liked it more before the change, seems stupid, first to look it up on IMDB, then copy and paste it in, so the search can find it, and sometimes it cant find the IMDB tt… :frowning:

But thanks for clearing it up for me

What is the work around for this if Plex Movie doesn’t have the information but The Movie DB does? I used to be able to just match to a different agent and it would pull in the different posters and metadata.

Do we have to completely change the agent at the library level to do a one-off match to another database?

The new Plex Movie agent pulls information from both IMDB and TMDB.

Adding the IMDB or TMDB ID to the folder and file name assists with matching, but is not required.

If Plex is having trouble matching a specific movie, you can try adding the one of the IDs to the folder & file name then rescanning the library. You can also perform a manual match, via Fix Match, using the IMDB ID, if necessary, instead of the movie title (see Fix Match documentation for details).

If Plex is having trouble matching just a few movies, check the naming & organization against Plex naming requirements. If everything is in alignment, then reply back to the thread (or open a new one if you wish), and include the movie title and how you have the file named in your system. Sometimes there are movies that Plex has trouble matching or where the systems at Plex have incorrect or missing information.

Note: If the media is a MP4 or M4V container, check for embedded metadata using MediaInfo or similar tools. If the metadata is incorrect, you will need to correct it or tell Plex to ignore the metadata (Edit the library. In Advances, de-select “Prefer Local Metadata,” then refresh the metadata for the library).

Plex Media Server not matching any media is usually indicative of a larger problem such as database corruption or Internet connectivity issues. If that is happening, open a new thread, and include the usual information such as Plex Media Server version & platform, and a set of debug (not verbose) log files capturing the problem. See Reporting Issues with Plex Media Server for details on gathering server logs.

Plex Movie must not be pulling from TMDB properly then. In my case it matched the movie “Nature of Love (2020)” just fine, but lacked most of the metadata. Plex Movie only filled in the Title, Originally Available, Summary, and gave a single poster. It provided no information on the cast, writers, producers, country, etc.

I decided to change the entire library to TheMovieDB and was able to pull in all the expected fields plus 4 poster options.

I would be interested to know if others see the same lack of metadata for that movie.
