For the last week Plex Media server is no longer scanning in new items. My files reside on a synology NAS and before last week, Plex would identify new items usually pretty quickly. Starting last week it will not pickup new items. These are all files(movies, home movies, TV shows, pictures) and I have not changed the naming format so I know it is not that. For the home movies section i will see the folder to the new files but the folder will not have any media files to play in that new folder. I have done multiple turbo scans and I have also done a couple of deep scans and it is still not seeing the new items. I have tried restarting my computer, I have also restarted my NAS and still the same issues. I man not sure what this could be, anyone have any suggestions it would be appreciated. thank you.
Hi,
I seem to have run into the problem although running on a Windows box with the files on the same box, see http://forums.plexapp.com/index.php/topic/72165-movies-sections-not-updating-during-scan/ (I started writing the post before I noticed yours). As in your case everything has been working fine until recently when this issue popped up...
Thanks
Yesterday, I tried uninstalling plex media server and reinstalling the application to see if that would resolve the issue, but it is still not scanning new items in. I have no idea why this would have changed unless Plex stops scanning after a certain amount of items, because nothing has changed on my machine since this started happening. I also tried to reset the system bundle, which didn't resolve it either. I really don't want to clear my library being I have more than a 1000 movies, more than 60,000 mp3 files, and more than 2000 tv shows, but at the moment I have no idea what to do to fix this since everything I have done has not resolved it. If anyone has any answer to fix this without me having to redo my library it would be appreciated. Thank you.
Not sure if this helps at all but as a general troubleshooting step, did you try to create a new folder and copy one of your media file to the newly creates folder and see if it shows up in either a new section pointing to that folder or adding the folder to an existing section? What was the result?

yeah I have tried multiple new folders, with the home movies I see the folder but the folder doesn't have any media inside of it when look at it through a plex client.
I noticed this problem last night on my fresh install. My server was not scanning because I did not have the checked update my library automatically in settings, library.
I removed a folder from TV shows, still the TV show is still resident in the library after a turbo scan, it has been six hours since I removed the folder. The last content that was scanned in the home movies was 11 days ago when I do a sort by recently added, and I know I have added content since then. @Ally Media, looked at that setting and it is checked. Something is not right with plex and I have no idea what broke it from scanning.
Ok, with my frustration of trying to figure this out with zero success I decided just to start fresh with my Plex library. OMG, Plex creates a crap ton of files, starting to delete the files in the directory, it counted 4,661,518 total files in the Plex directory which took about an hour and 20 minutes to count. Now it looks like it may take about that much time to delete them all. UGH!
updated: actually it says it will take 3 hour and 30 minutes to delete...guess I will be re-setting this up tomorrow.

Wow, that's a lot of files! What folder was this?

That was my entire 'Plex Media Server' folder.
well figured out the issue, I am not sure if it was what I did to get it Plex to work on my apple tv or there was a lifehacker article on a media manager for XBMC that required the use of python, in the log files I had these items before every item it tried to scan that is couldn't scan:
This article was posted on Lifehacker about 13 days ago(http://lifehacker.com/htpc-manager-gives-you-complete-control-over-your-htpc-513024274), and I did it 2 days after it was posted and that is when everything stopped working. The instructions for the app is to create the directory C:\Python27 directory which is when Plex Media server stopped scanning items in. If you tried this, remove that directory and your problems should be resolved. Hope this helps everyone.
If you just remove it from the Environment variables PATH that should do the trick as well..
EDIT: I tried doing that, and then restarting, but the new items still wont scan in. Unfortunately I can't delete the Python27 folder as other apps are using it, also it existed before my issue too. (but I do believe it has something to do with the LH article)
In my case, all started to be indexed again after I installed back Python :))
