I am looking for some help! I have having an issue only with my music library (tv and movie work fine)
Ive been finding that my server keeps hanging on scanning my music library. My music is on its own drive in my server. When plex gets hung on my music library it tends to lock up file explorer as well.
(It will sit like this forever and never progress, also note the 2 active streams are having no issues at all)
It will sit like this hung until I either unplug the HDD that has my music on it, reboot the server, or reboot plex. (I ran a long HDD test with Seatools… which passed, smart status ok as well.)
Plex Amp will also hang, If I play a song or album that hangs when viewed in plex amp on my phone, I can get it to play by finding it in plex web (not amp), playing it then it works in plex Amp again.
I don’t think that my library is too big or anything. I also noticed in my console the below error, however I am sure if its related or an issue. it shows up a lot.
In some contexts, the filename that Plex is scanning will be visible in the command line for the process. If you use Process Explorer, you can see that information. You may get lucky and see something obvious. Perhaps there is a malformed file that is making the scanner die – I’ve seen that happen before, but not for a long time.
Check if you have some particularly large albums, with several dozen tracks (or even more).
Take these out temporarily, then scan again. If the scan goes through, you know the culprit.
Second idea:
In general, if you are scanning very large libraries into a new library (or after moving or restoring from a crash), I would set all the “analysis” tasks to either “Disabled”, or “As a Scheduled Task” only. So they are not performed “when media is added”.

Your first idea might be hard to pull off as I have 1000’s of albums it would be hard to know which ones match that. The scanner never gets stuck on the same artist let a lone album. But can try to narrow some down.
All of my tasks are “As Scheduled Task”. It seems that in the morning is when I see the issue. So perhaps it is the scanner? as another Note when I unplug my music drive everything goes back to normal. And when things get hung it can (not always) hang the system, and when this happens the drive activity percent in task manager shows it as 100%.
