Upgrading from DSM 6 → DSM 7 requires a very specific sequence.
RW permisssions are insuffiient.
This is VERY important:

If you still have ‘Plex / Library / Application Support / Plex Media Server’

and all the normal files underneath it

Uninstall AND ERASE the DSM 7 Plex server

If you’ve installed the DSM 7 app and have just uninstalled (and purged it)
In the instructions , skip to “Scenario 2 - Step 3.”
It will not hang – it may take a long time – DO NOT interrupt it.
Installing the PMS 1.40.0 and above versions require another major DB change.
This will also take a long time.
PMS will report “503 - Maintenance”. This is expected.
Hit F5 every few minutes to see if it’s complete – It does not auto-refresh
