# Plex Media Server (snap) lost several files (mp3's)

Server Version#: Ubuntu Server 20.04.1
Player Version#: 1.20.1.3252-a78fef9a9 (snap)
Without any known reason to me, my Plex server suddenly can’t see certain MP3’s. I’ve even changed r/w/x to `777` and nada. I’ve moved files around and even performed what was applicable from the “[plex dance](https://forums.plex.tv/t/plex-incorrectly-identifying-tv-episodes/100265/4#Comment_908454)”.
Snap connections are all there:

As stated, nothing has changed - minus a likely snap refresh that broke - I have no idea when as I just noticed this tonight. If anyone’s had this same issue, and fixed it, I’d love to know what you did. TIA.

If I may recommend ?
Use the native package.
The SNAP is an isolated container.
Yes it will use media from your home directory but it’s really limited.
The full package will let you do anything you want.
As for media deletion: It’s enabled by default meaning the apps can delete it.
Settings - Server - Library - Show Advanced.
You can disable media deletion if you want to protect it.
This does mean that DVR recordings will need manual deletion unless you structure the permissions (native package) such that user `plex` can’t delete them while your username is in full control.

I was using the `.deb` previously and I like the snap much better - I actually have a bunch of snaps published in the snap-store. So, I do understand how they work.
You should know (and anyone else seeing this thread) that snaps **can** see outside of the `/home/user` folder with interface management. That’s why I showed which interfaces were connected.
That said, there was nothing “deleted” from my file-system. Plex just can’t see these specific music files and I can’t understand why. Permissions are no different between any of these files, the formats are mixed but there’s no reason that should matter because one `.mp3` will appear and the other(s) won’t. A `.flac` will show up and another won’t.
Frankly, makes no sense to me.

Thank you for clarifying. I apologize if I presumed the most common errors without asking further first.
In the case of MP3’s, is there embedded metadata (tags) which might otherwise be ambiguous? The filename and structure is overridden when a tag is present.

No tags, no metadata. The titles are clean - just the song #, song name and file extension. This has always been the case - I’ve had these files on here for years, this is just recently happened which leads me to believe it was an update to the snap that did it.

Are these missing tracks less than 5 seconds long by any chance? IIRC Plex used to have some funky trouble with those.

No, they’re full length songs - for example, Audioslave “Show Me How To Live” is one that suddenly “disappeared”.

One more oddity to add to this:
I just added a single - new - MP3 to my music collection within the same directory. Plex picked it up, and it’s there as one would assume.
I’m totally confused.

Figured it out!
I had to mount it from another machine, rename the folder and then change the path in Plex to the new name (Music → MUSIC). Now it’s scanning the library and importing all my files.
Of course this means that my playlists are hosed. ☹
