# Plex on Fdroid

Will Plex be available in Fdroid? I don’t have google services, I got Plex to have my own media without depending on services like Youtube (google) or others but I see I still need them if I want it on my android and that will never happen on me.

I don’t know if Plex is using the google play services or Firebase but can we have a Plex App on android without those non-privacy services?

Yes please! I see there’s an apk out there but I’ve not validated it’s authenticity yet. Either host an APK on the plex.tv site or get it uploaded to f-droid.

That would be excellent! My Projector is Android based, it doesn’t support Google’s playstore though due to Chinese firmware and restrictions.  
I would love to use plex and keep it up to date via F-Droid (and not have to use cracked apk files)

I found Jellyfin which is an open source alternative to Plex and they have some builds of the android app without google so now I am using it and has mostly (or more) the same options as Plex, I will see if Jellyfin will replace completely Plex. For now I only use Plex for TV Shows and Movies as Plex manages those formats better but with time I think I will end up setting up all in one service instead having two.
