Plex on nAS will not read contents of a folder

I am having an odd problem with my plex server on my Synology (Synology DS216Play). I have three folders with movies in them. Two of the folders work fine. However the third folder wil only detect the first movie (alphabetical) in it and then does not detect any other movies.

I have been running this for a while and this problem started (as near as I can tell) last week. Before that all folders work fine.

I am also running a server on my PC and it is pointing to exactly the same folders and does not have this issue so I don’t think it can have anything to do with the folders.

Does anyone have any ideas about this?

Synology likes to forget folder permissions from time to time.
It also, being Linux, is strict about permissions.

The sequence to check is:

  1. Control Panel - Shared Folders - EDIT the media share - Permissions tab
  2. Verify user Plex has R/W or RO access
  3. If both of these already exist, continue with the next step
  4. File Station - Right-click the share containing the media - Properties
  5. Verify these minminal READ permissions as shown below. (you will likely have others which are ok to leave intact)

  1. OK this and get back to the main window
  2. Have PMS scan files again
