Plex playback recently stuttering 3 to 4 times during a film

I have been using plex for 5 years+ now and not a problem with playback with either bluray or dvd MKV files. I am using a custom pc with quad intel 3.4gb processors and 16gb of ram running on windows 10. Running the latest windows plex server and plex media player on the same pc and projects on to a 4m x 3m screen.
Recently I have noticed 3 to 4 times during a film the playback suddenly skips 1 to 2 seconds or stutters , then carries on perfectly. Happens on blueray and dvd MKV files. The files I have always used is non compressed so DVD are 5gb and blueray files 20gb in size to get the best quality on such a large screen. As I said this is only a recent thing and up until a few months ago everything has been perfect. There was a large windows 10 update a month or so ago could this be it? of is this a bug in the recent plex updates? IDEAS?

Can you provide a bit more detail.

  1. are the movies direct play / direct stream or are they being transcoded?
  2. when you notice the shuttering are you seeing a greater cpu usage on plex server ?
  3. when you notice the shuttering are you seeing a greater saturation of your network ?

any other changes you can think of for your network setup , different clients (client versions) , more devices on your network that could be using your bandwidth?

The settings for both direct play and steam are enabled
CPU seems to be at around 30% when playing
As the plex server and plex media player are on the same pc, wifi bandwidth is not really an issue. I would add though that when I play the same film on another TV via roku box over our internal wifi there is not any problems and the film plays perfectly.
The skipping occurs with or with out other people are sharing the same system via another tv in our house, so seems not to be an issue there.
point worth noting is everything has been perfect for years until the last few months when this Problem started, hardware has not changed. Is there a setting in plex media or plex server when for some reason has been disabled by miss take which could cause the problem??

I have the same problems really. Using ”play original” (although I do use subtitles) any no matter if I am playing within the same network or outside I get 3-4 half a second stutters per movie.

I store it all on a NAS and use my Mac Mini to run the PMS but the CPU usage is low on it.

Does anyone have an idea on what is causing this?

I found the solution - well works for me - go on to PMP setting - main setting page scroll to the bottom Click “Native open gl” and restart computer. All sorted. Best of luck
