Plex Player Nvidia Shield - Content no longer appearing in secondary TV Shows Libraries + Continue Watching list no longer showing on Home Screen

Server Version#: 1.23.2.4625
Player Version#: 8.18.0.25636

Hello Plex Community -

I am using Plex Server on the Nvidia Shield (connected to external hard drive) and using the android Plex Player, and have my Plex Libraries set up so I have seperate TV categories (e.g. Anime, TV Shows, Foreign shows, etc) pointing to a different related directory on my external hard drive. This set up has been working fine since I started with Plex about a year ago .

On Monday 5/31/2021 I noticed that some of my TV Show sub folders do not show any content on the Plex player app on the Nvidia Shield :

When I use my web browser to access my Plex account and manage libraries and content, I am able to see the content in all my TV Shows sub folders just fine:

I have also not changed anything with the content folder directories in the meantime as well:

In addition, Plex does not display any " Continue Watching" or “Up Next” content on my Home Page, on either the Plex app or through my web browser. When navigating to a specific show Plex does remember where I left off or or the next episode to watch

Wondering if anybody has experienced similar problems on Nvidia Shield Plex player app the past few days and found a solution. I can also provide log files as well (please let me know if a specific log file is needed instead of the whole zip file)

Thank you so much!!

did you disable all the Library recommended rows for that library? There is a known bug with android that it does not show the option to switch to library tab if nothing in recommended. if you enabled one (or play something for a bit to it shows in Contginue watching) it should reappear so you can switch to that tab. (it should stay that way afterwards so you can disabled them again

Thanks for the reply BigWheel,

No, I have not changed or disabled any settings in the Library Recommended rows for the libraries (I did not even know about this feature until today while troubleshooting this issue I just encountered)

all TV Show libraries have same Recommended settings - library content only shows up in one (which is the first that is on the order list if that helps)

Ok then I am going to suggest reseting all customizations on the app on shield Move to Home and then there should be the three dots to the left of it to select. it will ask to choose a server to start with if you have more than one then with libraries/sources to pin to the home screen

I selected “Rest All Customizations” on the Home button on the app, but did not solve it. I only have one server as well

would you mind getting the logs from the Android logs after going to that library. I can’t think of other causes for that issue and want to see if there is any specific errors when going to that library.

Thanks BigWheel, I sent you my Android log via Message.

a 500 error is pretty generic and usually mean the server is just not responding but you said other libraries load fine correct?

I think I may need to see the server logs too

Thank you,

I sent the zip file of my Plex Media Server logs to you via Message.

Yes, on the Plex media player android App I am able to load my Movies Libraries and one of my TV related libraries just fine, it is only the secondary TV libraries that dont display. I am also able to find everything as normal through a web browser.

Thanks!

Looks like you have database corruption. Lots of this in log

fixing this on the shield is a bit tricky since app data locations is not accessible by default.
First you need to move the data directory to a location you will be able to access with your computer. Then you can try to restore a back up

Thank you BigWheel for confirming, when I was reviewing the logs earlier I noticed these same errors appearing as well. I will make a backup of my database, then try to restore a backup.

I set up my Shield on my local network so I can access the internal and external hard drive (where Plex is stored) via my windows PC; will I be able to make a copy of the database over to my PC then restore there and send over?

Yes but make sure the server on shield is not running while you do it

Got it, thanks! Ill make sure to turn the Plex Server off on the shield before restoring the database.

If I have any other questions I will start a thread or inquire in the Plex Media Server Forum session. If worse comes to pass I hope I can just wipe the database clean and start again from scratch

Thanks again for your help!

Update - I was able to correct issue by restoring one of my backup Plex database files for the Media Server. Since my content is stored on an external drive connected to my Shield, ill be sure going forward to always ensure I stop PMS running before removing the external hard drive to minimize any further corruption.

Thanks again!
