Hi Guys,
I’m having an issue with Plex not keeping track of Season/Episode information on the continue watching screen. It correctly marks episodes as watched though. I’m currently watching 2 shows on my server. It shows correct information for one and incorrect information for the other. Any thoughts.
For example, for the show that has issues, continue watching says Season 1 episode 1, but I’m on season 3 episode 10 even though Plex correctly marks the episodes as watched. The other show correctly shows that I am on season 1 episode 20. The issue is that I have to manually find where I left off. I expect to see where I currently am in the show just like I see where I am in the other show.
For the series in question where you are on season 3 have you tried marking the S01E01 episode as unwatched then refreshing and marking it as watched again?
Any chance you had/have the show/episode open in a browser window or another client at some point? I’ve had some shows that I started watching in one client, and then paused it but didn’t close it out/stop it completely, so plex sees it as still in progress. Anytime I opened that client again plex would show that particular episode as in progress in my continue watching across all clients even though I had finished it on a different client. I would mark it watched, but the next time I opened that client again, it would show up everywhere.
For me it was the desktop app where the episode was paused not stopped. The in progress episode was minimized so I missed it.
I’m using the desktop app and yes I have paused episodes in the app then switched to the other show. I’m watching the show that has incorrect information. wife and I are watching the other show. It is maintaining correct information. I had that problem too. Marked them as watched hoping that would fix it. No joy, Plex thinks I’m on season 1, episode 1. Am actually somewhere in season 3.
won’t refreshing the meta data reset everything back to default and lose where I actually am? Also doesn’t make sense that Plex knows I’ve watched the episodes and marks them as watched. Good thing too. It’s what I’ve been using to keep track.
What I mean is do you have the show open in another window/browser tab somewhere, outside the desktop app. For example if you go to app.plex.tv in a browser, look at the bottom of the screen, sometimes the show will still be there, minimized and stopped. Or is there a tab somewhere open in the browser? I know some people that have dozens and dozens of old tabs and they lose track.
You can look at your authorized devices list to see where else you may be logged in and kill those sessions to ensure no other sessions are active and causing a shows status to be affected. If you do this, don’t deauthorize the server instance.
What I meant was if Plex knows you’ve watched S01E02-S03E0X but still thinks you have never watched S01E01 then only adjust that episode to mark it as watched again. I’ve had this happen if intro and credits wasn’t accurately detected, or I just skipped the end not realizing the credits were so long it actually didn’t meet the threshold in settings for a show to be fully watched. This can happen if there’s previews after the end of the credits detailing what’s to come in this season.
It’s not keeping track at all in the continue watching pane. It says S01-E01. It’s keeping track of the other show just fine. The only thing it’s doing right with the offending show is marking the episodes as watched.
