Server Version#: 1.30.0.6442
Player Version#: Web 4.87.2 (and any other player)

Hello,

I’ve been struggling with my PLEX Server setup, in terms of having HW tonemapping transcode, from files encoded with h265 with HDR, to h264 SDR.

My setup is currently based on Proxmox. I have a LXC dedicated to PLEX, with the characteristics listed bellow, but one relevant topic is that the HW transcoding from H264 to H264 is working great.
When I enable the “Enable HDR tone mapping” setting, and try to play an HDR h265 file using for instance the Firefox Browser, it tries to transcode but fails.

Characteristics of the LXC (based on the LXC script from ttek ([link](https://tteck.github.io/Proxmox/)):

- OS: Ubuntu 20.04
- intel drivers: intel-media-va-driver-non-free
- installed opencl package: beignet-opencl-icd
- output of command “clinfo -l” :

```auto
Platform #0: Intel Gen OCL Driver
 `-- Device #0: Intel(R) HD Graphics Kabylake ULT GT2
```

- output of manually installed PLEX server, version 1.30.0.6442:

```auto
PlexMediaServer install: Pre-installation Validation.
- When trying to play (and transcode) an HDR h265 file, with setting “Enable HDR tone mapping”, the console logs shows the following:
```auto

```
… and then it starts using the CPU to transcode, which is non effective.
I’ve already made a clean Proxmox Install, with a new LXC clean install, and lastly, I’ve also installed the Proxmox Edge kernels, but the result is the same.
If anyone has an idea of what is happening, I would appreciated it. I can share de debug logs if needed.
Regards,
I’ve found lots of unRAID posts discussing this with 11th Gen GPU but no definitive answer? If I force a 1080p Remux to Transcode, Plex and intel\_gpu\_top reports GPU usage. If I force a H265 HDR Remux to transcode, only software transcoding. This is a relatively clean install of OMV6…
Hi ChuckPa,
Thanks for you lightning response.
The Proxmox Edge Kernel is version 6.0.9-edge, so I did not tried to downgrade to 5.19.17-1, as the other used suggested, and pass directly to install the plex server version 1.29.2.6273, and it now works!
I’m going to stick with this version, until the official PMS gets the fix. Thanks!
Just to give the update that, going back to standard Proxmox Kernel (5.15.64-1-pve) does not break the fix, so I’m keeping it for the sake of stability.
Thanks
I think you’re going to find a lot of things “break” when going to the 6.0 kernels right now.
There’s a big shift in the support libraries needed to talk to those new APIs correctly.
