All of the new media files I have been adding to my library have not been updated by Plex Media Server. I have been using Plex for many years now and usually when this error occurs it is quickly fixed by updating my Plex Server or Player. I have had this problem for the last three weeks and have updated both my Plex Server and Player but still no success. I have added about 20 TV episodes and about 5 Movies to my hard drive and both the automatic and manual Library scans still don’t see the new files. I have made no hardware or software changes to my system and have no data crashes or data loss, my server was working and then it just stopped seeing new files. I think I updated the Plex Server and it just stopped seeing new files, since that is what usually happens when I have had this problem in the past. Please let me know what steps I should take to get my server updating my media library again.
What system do you use as your Plex Media Server (e.g. NAS or Server and what respective type — NAS model, Server OS and version)?
There’s many reasons why Plex might not see your files… but your addition that this happens frequently and the files are recognized after you update the server doesn’t really fit.
Could you therefore share an example how your media (tv shows/movies) is organized/named and how you trigger the manual update?
I have my Plex Server running on a Mac Mini (macOS Sierra 10.12.6 (16G2016)) with my media on two separate external hard drives, one 4Tb hard drive for my Movies and one 6Tb hard drive for my TV Shows.
I have my media organized as follows:
Movies\A = All movies that start with the letter A
Movies\B = All movies that start with the letter B
And so forth until Z
TV Shows\Ballers\Season 1 = All Episodes of Ballers Season 1
I use the recommended naming for
Movies I use “Movie Name (Year)”
TV Shows I use “Show Name S01E01”
Normally I just add the new files to my media directories and Plex Server detects the change and updates my library, but that is the problem it hasn’t for three weeks now, so what I have been doing is manually clicking on the Plex app in my Mac Taskbar and clicking on “Update Libraries” to start a scan for newly added files.
It seems the log is not reaching that far back.
Can you manually trigger Scan Library Files for one of the impacted libraries, wait for it to complete and then download a new version of those logs.
