Hey @ChuckPA ,
I have a few 1080p TV episodes that do not seem to want to play from my Synology NAS. When I try to play them it starts but then I get a blank screen and a msg comes up telling me the player lost its connection to the PMS, or the PMS is unavailable. That is not the case at all.
How can I troubleshoot this? Is there something in the content that is throwing things off?
Thanks,
Steve
If only a few, the first thing I’d suspect is bad media. When the player does to blank and gives up that’s almost definitive proof to it getting lost in a corrupted video datastream. VLC will behave the same when it happens (timeline bar goes back & forth then quits). That said… VLC test it first
Well I have some more info about this…
Dropping the max play to 12 meg 1080p got the content to play. Now its telling me its transcoding H264, but I thought my player supports H264. Its an Android player…hmmm!

That’s what it looks like when bit rate is being limited.
H.264 input (e.g. 30 Mbps) -> H.264 output (12 Mbps)
Just to close the loop on this one…
I transcoded the affected content to MP4, with AAC 5.1 sound and all good. It seems the high bitrate bit me again, but getting it into a more acceptable format works wonders. I will remember this when I have issues.
