Plex Skill Not Playing Audio on Echo

All,

Yesterday I saw that the Plex Alexa skill was updated to playback on the echo itself. I've been attempting to do so but have been having problems.

The Plex Alexa skill recognizes my server and will acknowledge some artist / song requests as well as suggest songs that are on my media server. Other requests are met with "I'm having trouble reaching accessing your plex skill right now". (This error is consistent per the same request).

In the case that she 'successfully plays' a song, nothing is played on the echo. I've opened the web player on my pc and she recognizes and changes to that player, but nothing is played on that player either. If I close the web player, Alexa says she can't find a player and puts a card in my web app. She acknowledges playing a song but then playback is silent.

I've attached a my best guess at the relevant server log below (where she says she can't access the skill).

Can anyone help me?

Reading through the forums, this sounds like this is an extremely common issue right now.

Playing with it more I found that saying “Alexa, tell plex to play Martin O Donnell on [desktop app]” results in the song playing as it should etc. (She still says she can’t access the skill, but the music plays). The issue only occurs when I don’t specify a player / it should play back on the echo.

From my limited understanding, I have a first gen echo (the tall original ones).

Similar sort of issue here.
I can say 'Alex, tell Plex to play [Artist] and I get a response 'Playing [Artist} but no sound.
If I say tell Plex to play [Artist] on [Playername] then all is well. But I have already told Alexa/Plex my player name. (There is only the one) Do I really have to specify each time?
BTW If I say ‘Alexa, tell Plex to play [Moviename]’ then all is well.
What bit of the jigsaw am I missing?

If you don’t specify a [playerName] then plex is suppossed to play on the echo itself, but for some echos (your’s and mine at least) it seems to either play only part of the song, or none of the song.

Under network settings, I set secure connections to required and disabled HTTP Pipelining.
The echo now plays music on the device instead of being silent. However, the same requests that threw an error (unable to access plex skill) are still throwing an error and (some songs?) are choppy… (pauses of silences etc) but it’s progress.
Not sure if the settings changed anything or if the skill was updated last night…

Ok, I just performed a test on one of the files I can’t seem to play (Rookie from Halo ODST, purchased from Amazon).
Importing and then exporting the file with Audacity, the plex skill can play the new file…
Looks like Audacity dropped the media bitrate from 223 kbps to 134, and the codec bitrate from 217 to 128. I’m not sure if that’s the issue, or something else that Audacity changed. I’m going to try to continue to compare file differences to see if I can narrow it down…

Note the error:
Dec 27, 2017 10:10:23.988 [1816] ERROR - Unable to find client profile for device; platform=, platformVersion=, device=Alexa, model=

Why this seems request specific is beyond me…

Copying a song and renaming the title and it doesn’t play. Removing multiple artists (So the song has only one artist) makes the copied song play.
I’m really wondering if the issues is multiple artists.

I am having the same issue. I have all kinds of albums on my plex server but non will play on my echo. I have asked it for numerous albums, play any and nothing comes through my echo. I have even asked it to play using the echo name and nothing. What is wrong with this skill. Does it actually work for anyone?

Hello friends

I had a similar problem with my echo dot, I told him to play a song and he said he was going to play it but he could not hear anything. It worked fine before but after updating my router with the dd-wrt it gave the same error that you comment, I made a downgrade to the router and it became fixed the problem, I have a tplink 3600 router, I hope it helps. I’m sorry for the bad English

anyone had any success with this? No matter what I’ve tried my Echo Dot will not play any music from my plex server. and if I ask it to “change my player” it only offers me one device (fire tv) so how am I meant to force it to play out of the dot? I’ve even tried unplugging the fire tv and then it just says there are no player and therefore still does nothing when I ask it to play me some music.
