Sadly not always ☹

Either that, or use [SRT2UTF-8](https://forums.plex.tv/t/rel-srt2utf-8/54149)

I took the subtitle file from above and simply converted it to UTF-8 (with BOM).
(originally, it was using a national 8-bit Windows encoding).
For Plex, you will always need to use UTF-8, which is nowadays supported practically everywhere.

(File removed)

You can use the above mentioned Plex plugin, or you can use a multitude of other ways to change the text encoding.

SRT files are simply text files, which follow a certain, very simple structure. So you can practically use any software which can load simple text files and supports conversion of text encoding. Even the simplistic notepad.exe on Windows 10 can do this now.

Since I check every subtitle file before adding it to my server, I use [Subtitle Edit](http://www.nikse.dk/SubtitleEdit "Subtitle Edit") to do the conversion.
It also supports a “batch mode”, where it processes a whole folder (and its subfolders) at once.

Huh. I didn’t actually check since it worked for me. but Ansi files should work too, since it’s still 8-bit. Can you provide a screenshow of the bad rendering? Since it worked for me, could be something local
