# Plex unmatches movies randomly

Server version: Version 1.5.5.3634  
OS: MacOS 10.12.4

Some (132 that i saw, maybe more) of the 1400+ movies were no longer matched to a movie. The video was there and you could play it. but all movie information was missing. If you update the library, it will rematch the movies, but issue will happen again

1. how is the file of this particular movie named?

2. Where are your movie files actually stored? Locally on your server device or on an external device or even a network share?

3. Settings - Server - Library - ‘Empty trash automatically after every scan’ should be **dis** abled

1. The Big Green (1995).avi
2. They are on a network share (Drobo)
3. I had this on, Just turned it off

This might have been the issue.  
Sometimes Plex rescans a library, either manually or automatically triggered. Or by schedule.  
If it cannot access a particular movie’s file during this, the movie is marked with a trash can icon.  
If 3) is set however, it makes Plex immediately erase this movie - including all customized metadata.

At next library update, the movie then gets added again to the library, this time with all default settings. Why it doesn’t immediately fetch fresh metadata for the movie remains to be investigated. It should do it, as long as the Plex server has working internet access.

@OttoKerner Not sure if this is new or If I just never noticed, But there are a couple hundred movies at the bottom of the list that only show the movie name and no other info. I have the option to unmatch them though, so I would assume that plex believes they are matched to a movie.

Please post the [Plex XML info](https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/201998867-Investigate-Media-Information-and-Formats "Plex XML info") of such a movie.

Ah yes, I see the problem:  
These are indeed matched with Plex Movie.  
But: these are mp4 files. (or they were at least at one time previously. Perhaps you did a quality upgrade? Or did you simply rename an mp4 into mkv?!!!)

This tells the story:  
`title="Mad.Max.Fury.Road.2015.1080p.WEB-DL.DD5.1.H264-RARBG"`  
This was read from embedded metadata and then used.

You need to reorder your agents.  
Go to Settings - Server - Agents - Shows - TheTVDB  
In there, grab the line ‘Local Media Assets’ with your mouse and drag it downwards, so it ends up being at the bottom of the stack of active agents.  
Repeat the same under  
Settings - Server - Agents - Shows - TheMovieDatabase  
+  
Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - Plex Movie  
+  
Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - TheMovieDatabase

Then, refresh one of the affected movies.  
Let’s see how that goes.

So i did that and now none of my movies have any info. I even unchecked everthing but. Same thing if I try “The Movie Database” instead of “Plex Movie”

This wouldn’t have been necessary.  
The point of the reordering is that you can keep them active.  
And I recommended you to only try this with _one_ movie.

I think we have established now that the Plex Movie agent doesn’t work for you.  
For further investigation, we need log files.

1. [activate debug](https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/201643703 "activate debug") logging ( **not** ‘verbose’!)
2. quit Plex Server
3. wait 1 minute
4. start Plex Server
5. wait 2 minutes
6. either [refresh](https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/200289306 "refresh") **one** movie or add **one** movie into your library
7. wait 3 minutes
8. [fetch log files](https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/200250417 "fetch log files") and [attach them here](https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/202756326-How-do-I-attach-files-in-the-forums- "attach them here")
