Is the PMS server a dedicated server, or is it also your workstation?
It’s also my workstation.
Do you have more than one router-type of devices in your network?
Are you using an additional software/appliance to filter the internet?
Are you able to access the settings of your router?
Look out for a setting which handles “DNS rebinding protection”. If you find one, put the domain name plex.direct into the list which are excempt from this protection.
Hi Otto. I only have one router, with no additional filtering software. There is no “DNS rebinding protection” in my router settings, as far as I can make out. Thanks for your help!
Hi Otto,
Here’s what I have tried:
- Uninstalled PMS from my PC and re-installed. The server is running.
- Created a new Plex account and logged in as new user
- Plex Web is still not showing a “Servers” option and merely prompts me to download PMS when I click on “Your Media”
I would really like to get this working ASAP. Any further ideas?
Many thanks!
Andy.
Creating a new Plex account and logging into it with your web browser
doesn’t change the plex account which the Plex server uses.
Your Plex server is still using the same plex account that you use to write in this here forum.
If you want to change that, use the procedure which was linked in my first response above.
Which web browser are you using?
I’m using the latest version of Chrome.
Any web browser add-ins?
Other 3rd-party security software like firewall, adblocker, or anti virus active?
Chrome Extensions: AdBlockPlus, TamperMonkey, PushBullet, FlipIt and a few Google extensions.
No 3rd party security. Firewall & Antivirus are Windows Defender.
Good $deity!
Disable them all.
Then try again, using the same browser session which you are using to access this forum
No difference I’m afraid, Otto. ![]()
Could you take a look at the hosts file of your machine?
It should not contain any Plex-related entries.
(if you have never knowingly manipulated it, it should not contain anything, except perhaps one or several lines dealing with the localhost address).
No, there are no Plex-related entries in Hosts.
Could you tell me the local IP address of your server machine?
(you can see it in the properties of your network connection, under “Status”)
It’s 192.168.1.135
Could you take a look into
Settings - Server - Network - ‘Show Advanced’ - “Preferred network interface”
Does the same IP address appear in this drop-down selector?
Is it currently set to “Any”? If so, set it to “192.168.1.135”, then Save Changes at the bottom.
Wait 1 minute, then restart the server.
Under the PMS Settings, there’s no “Server” setting.
I give up. Something about your machine must be severely messed up.
OK. I don’t blame you. Thank you so much for all your help Otto - you’ve been great. It really is much appreciated.
But one final question: do you think there is any way at all I can completely eliminate Plex and start from scratch, as if I were running Plex for the first time?
Many thanks!!
Andy.
We already did that.
