Hello does using plex with movies stored on the ssd make the plex faster? the speed also increases with a good router? thank you ---

No is a short and simple answer. SSD are fantastic to have as a start up drive and store your applications. It can be an advantage to store large Graphics jobs but for reading Movie files there is no need. ---

I’ve got my Plex database on an HDD spinning at 5400 and it’s plenty fast. Yes, one day I’d like to move everything to a TB SDD - for a reason I haven’t quite nailed down yet. \<—other than there is nothing more pleasing than spending money - even if you don’t have any, know what you’re spending it on, or why…lol ---

And that means? SSD’s will increase the speed of launching apps on the start up drive. It will not increase the speed that they operate, including the trans coder. A better processor will increase the operating speed of a trans coder not a drive. It is a known on the forums that it’s best to avoid Trans coding, client hardware selection, file type selection, network /LAN speed, app quality setting, can all offer less trans coding ---

The only comparable difference one might find is SSD do not “spin down” and HDD will. I’ve done a few tests on SSD’s and HDD’s spin down and only found maybe a 4 second pause on the HDD on the first movie of the day. After that, the rest of the day is smooth sailing. No lag or pause. ---
