Plex won't log in from the desktop

Hi, Long time plex user but this has totally stumped me. All of a sudden for no reason that I can comprehend, plex will not log in from my desktop PC. It just says :

Plex is not reachable

We are unable to connect to plex.tv at this time. Please try again later.

It’s fine from anything else, just not my PC. I also cannot get to plex.tv. I can get to https://www.plex.tv/en-gb/tv/ but if I try and download anything it says Oops, looks like we can’t retrieve downloads at this time, please return later. The only thing that resolves it is to use browsec on chrome. Interestingly I couldn’t even log into the forums at all - that just wouldn’t resolve unless i activated browsec. If i use my normal full vpn i can’t connect, only browsec seems to make any difference.

I’ve uninstalled my vpn and reset the network connection - still the same.

I’ve made no changes at all - My server runs off a vm attached to this very machine and that seems to be fine and is reachable by everything other than this PC. I’m in the process of moving plex to a NAS, just waiting on the disks - Not that this will help of course as it won’t load plex at all. I mean in the grand scheme of things it’s not much of an issue as i can connect to it from every other device (and this one if I use browsec) it’s just really baffling.

Check your hosts file. It turned out to be issue for these folks Cannot access plex.tv only on specific PC

You sir, are awesome. I had a load of stuff in there for vpn bypass, cleared them - all working. I can’t actually remember why. Weird that it’s literally just started to affect it though as they must have been there for months and months!

I haven’t checked yet, but most of these VPN bypasses are based on those fixed IPs we can get from that aws link. I believe Plex made some IP migration that is now breaking all these tools, which is not a Plex problem, but what you think?

Yeah that is likely. I think our Ops guys made some changed to load balancer.

Yeah i’m betting thats it, they were all fixed ip addresses that were in there. I remember why i put them in there now. I remote stream to my brother in law and at the time I ran a vpn without it running on a vm. I changed it yonks ago - and am changing it again when the disks arrive for the new Nas.

Thanks so much for the help guys - quick and easy fix.
