Turns out it was pango after all! Except the previous version also crashes, we needed to go a few versions back. Here’s the one that worked for me: [https://archive.archlinux.org/packages/p/pango/pango-1%3A1.44.1-1-x86\_64.pkg.tar.xz](https://archive.archlinux.org/packages/p/pango/pango-1%3A1.44.1-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz)

With just this downgraded and the rest of my system up to date, everything works fine!

**However** I’d like to establish whether this is pango’s or Plex’s fault before I mark this as solved. I’ll be talking with the pango people.

I had to go back further to make it work, but thanks! (:1.44.3-1 still crashed). This is what I used:

```auto
sudo pacman -U https://archive.archlinux.org/packages/p/pango/pango-1%3A1.42.4-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz

```

I might try a couple newer one’s to see where it breaks, but that’s what worked for me.

And, just to be clear, this is the command I used to fix it, with the most recent working pango:

```auto

Hopefully only arch-based users are affected because if not that would make plexamp very much unusable for basically every Linux user whenever they upgrade (and when their distro rolls out the update) ☹ either way i hope the pango guys can figure it out

The pango guys looked into it (the linked issue is the same bug as the one we’re getting) and the issue appears to be either from Electron or Plexamp - the app ships with an outdated version of harfbuzz. I’ve confirmed that this is the case for plexamp with:

```auto
~|⇒ nm -D /tmp/.mount_plexamvh8vy5/app/plexamp | grep hb

```

You can read Matthias Clasen’s comment on the topic for how to read the output of that command, but anyway Plexamp should ship with a higher version of harfbuzz - the question being, can we upgrade Plexamp’s version of harfbuzz @elan? I doubt that we have to bring this to the electron repo it looks more of a thing the app has to fix.

Any update on this? Pango has updated to `1.44.6` and has included a warning before crashing which matches what they found:

```auto
~|⇒ plexamp

Any chance we can get plexamp to link with a more up-to-date version of harfbuzz?

Using Pango 1.44.1 worked until today with no issues. However, the newest thunar wants **pango\_attr\_insert\_hyphens\_new** , and I use thunar more than Plexamp, so I upgraded to the latest Pango to get it to work. I would, however, like to use Plexamp again without compromise. 🙂

Honestly, the whole point of AppImage, Flatpak, and Snaps is to avoid this. The simple, bandaid solution is just to shove the offending library into the AppImage.

The more collaborative you are with us, the more collaborative we can be with you, it’s frankly lucky that you have such a passionate userbase (myself included) that dig so deep into issues. If we had any way to turn on debugging for Plexamp it would be a lot easier for us to give you meaningful, actionable feedback.

As long as the new version works on lInux that’s fine, however I’d like to point out, again, that if you’re not willing to support the different Linux distros (which you don’t have to do, since you use an AppImage by the way) all you have to do is open-source the code and we’ll gladly maintain it for you.
