PlexKodiConnect: Kodi Plex Integration Done Right

Changelog

version 2.11.6:

  • Fix rare sync crash when queue was full
  • Set “Auto-adjust transcoding quality” to false by default

Thanks for this plugin @croneter!

I have a root server with plex set up and was just reading about direct paths with PKC. I wouldn’t want Samba on my root tbh but I could set it up with sftp. But then I wonder why I would need PKC? I could just point Kodi to the the sftp paths and Kodi would load media files from there. Am I missing something?

Yes, you could do that, obviously

BUT: if you use PKC, you get the connection between the Kodi frontend and the Plex backend. This means: Plex metadata (yes, it’s a thing) and synchronized playstates plus probably other stuff

does pkc offer an on deck feature?

Yes, it does

Just wanted to give some feedback.
Installed PKC today and I’m really overwhelmed how nice it is.

Plex for Kodi was already a huge upgrade to the native Plex player but it still had a few minor details which were just not right. (Subtitles came in delayed, seek feature had an issue).

This really made the purchase of my nvidia shield really worth. Thanks for all the people involved.

Please keep the bug reports coming! This one must have annoyed a ton of XBox users

Changelog

version 2.11.7:

  • Fix PKC crashing on devices running Microsoft UWP, e.g. XBox

Small question…
PKC says that Play Next feature should be deactivated, cause it can cause crashes. Is that still accurate or just a small chance of happening?

The crash might still happen depending on the size of your library. The larger the more likely

@croneter I added some further details on issue 756, hopefully clarifying the nature of the issue with playlists not functioning as they do in other apps.

“If a video is played from a playlist from Plex Hub, the server will know that the video has been played. The issue is that the Playlist itself will not forward in the “Recent Playlists” list in any app or the “Recent Playlists” folder in PKC itself. IE, if I play something from a playlist in the third position in “Recent Playlists”, the playlist does not then move to the first position as it would on iOS, the web app, etc. From what I recall, the same behavior affects playlists synced to PKC from the config option. As someone who uses many, many playlists to watch and rewatch material, this feature is definitely something I miss from other Plex apps.”

Thanks, I will look into it.

Unfortunately, the Kodi implementation of playlists does not give one a lot of leeway or opportunities to come up with good solutions. Don’t expect too much…

I understand and appreciate you looking into it. Thank you for developing my favorite Plex app!

Wanted to help with development too, but without proper knowledge how those things work together, this is really hard.
I might attempt to read into it again time to time. Maybe one day, I’ll be able to do something too

Hi croneter,

I have tried all day and searched and searched, but i cant get this to work.

I have nvidia shield tv running plex client & Kodi with a synology NAS running PMS.

Windows Explorer Path to movies
\MYSERVER\Media Drive\Movies

Plex path to movie files (from Get Info)
/volume2/Media Drive/Movies/

Kodi can access files via nfs which is what I would like to setup under Customize Paths.

There is a space in the name Media Drive so I dont know if that is causing an issue.

**Update: Just tried removing the space in MediaDrive. Same Problem.

can anyone ĥint me if this supports to use the plex app as remote control?

Has anyone managed to use this with an enormous library?

I tried to use it with a remote 400tb library on my nvidia shield and it simply slows down kodi too much and eventually crashes.

I doubt your shield has enough internal storgage for a library that size

I said it’s a remote library. If you are referring to
the cache size, it’s fine. PKC syncs it successfully.

Yes you can remote control PlexKodiConnect from another Plex app

I have roughly about 10tb synced to one machine and it uses 5.7gb of internal storage on that device for the thumbnails folder alone
