I’m pretty new to this, but not new to NAS or IT. So apologies in advance if I dont include something up front. I setup the QNAP solely to connect with Plex. i have all the latest FW, upgraded the RAM, installed PMS on the server and trunked the ports. The only thing left is getting Plex to see my server so I can begin the plex streaming excellence. However, this is where it falls down flat on its face. Plex cant see it, so it cant add it. i’ve tried several things i’ve found in the forums to no avail. i’ve included the logs and am grateful to whatever help i can get to get this working. the intent is to be able to access my movies and such on the qnap via plex from anywhere globally. Log from today attached.
Secondary problem: Assuming plex can “see” my server I dont see a field by which I can add it to my list of my libraries.
To make things simple, please remove the NW Trunking on your QNAP for the time being so you only have a single NIC connected to your switch/router.
These lines lead me to believe it is not setup properly.

After you have made those changes, please stop/restart Plex in the App Center.
in addition to the new log. i can get to my plex account via the app center. i can also map/mount a drive to my pc’s os from the qnap. what i cant do is add the qnap as a library to my account. there doesnt seem to be an option for managing libraries.
just for full context I opened this account to connect to my buddy’s PMS. i liked it so much i wanted to add my own pms to my account and then share it with him and others.
First let’s completely un-install Plex from your system.
Then do a reboot of your NAS
Then install the QTS 1.15.x QPKG you downloaded via App Center - Manual Install
Then point your browser to the following address
http://IP.Of.QNAP:32400
That should start you on the setup of a new server.
If it doesn’t, try SSH’ing into your QNAP (via Putty, etc.) and run this script.
I have the same model of QNAP NAS, and like you am experiencing the same problem after a QNAP firmware update a few weeks ago. I have just uninstalled and re-installed. Now going to see if I can see the server. How did your attempt to this end up turning out?
I havent tried the supplied fixes yet. Reason being is I escalated to QNAP support as the unit is brand new. They claimed not having seen this behavior before and have raised it to product management. Waiting on a response. If I dont hear something soon I will try the fix supplied here. Stay tuned…
alright so some progress…Here’s the latest status. I completely rebuilt the QNAP with their help. They’ve since gone silent and I’ve run out of patience so I’m back here.
The only thing I’ve done beyond initial setup is add a shared folder and put a few movies on it. I installed PMS ver 1.13.5.291 on the QNAP via their app center. Also, it worth noting that there is only on NIC plugged into the network. The QNAP OS is ver 4.3.6.0883.
So I ran the PMS and its asked me for my Plex account. I logged in successfully and can see the other PMS servers and libraries I’ve connected to previously (they belong to a friend of mine). What I don’t see is a way to claim or add my QNAP PMS.
Any ideas? Included a screenshot to help illustrate my dilemma at this point. As always any help greatly appreciated.
Hi All,
I ran the “ClaimIt” tool and go the following error:
I went through the fix suggested and had a different problem. PMS is not listed in the windows registry. In fact, Plex isn’t listed at all. Keep in mind that the PMS is running
on the QNAP and not my windows PC. I don’t know if I am doing this wrong (probably am), and its causing the error.
I would stop the Plex App on your Qnap (via App Center).
I would then log into your PMS account via (app.plex.tv) and go to your Account > Authorized Devices > filter on Servers and remove any Server values listed there. Best option is to use a Chrome > Incognito session to make sure you don’t see any cached/etc. data.
After that has occurred, log out of your app.plex.tv account and then log back in and verify the Plex servers are gone.
Then re-start Plex on your QNAP. Give it a couple minutes and then connect via http://Qnap.IP.Address:32400 and see if it starts through your PMS Server script.
Went through these steps and no joy, same issue. I have a related question. Does it matter that I started my account in order to view my friend’s PMS and now want to add my own PMS? Is it “confusing” the software? I ask as I see no way at this point to add my PMS to my account. All of the guides, manuals, etc that I’ve seen show a plus icon or similar methods by which a PMS and libraries can be added. I see no such icon on my account.
Thanks @dane22. I’m not a member of his Home, at least I dont think he added me that way. I’ll have to check. But in reading the supporting article you included it stated that I can switch PMS and libraries amongst the users. The problem for me in this context is i dont see a way via the UI to add my PMS to my account. how do we fix that?
