PMS Manually Stopped within seconds of starting, after upgrading to DSM 7 and PMS 1.30

Hello, I’ve looked thru the forum posts and can’t find an exact match for this problem. I just upgraded my Synology DS216play to DSM 7 (specifically DSM 7.1.1-42962 Update 2), then upgraded PMS to the latest 1.30. The PMS server only runs for a few seconds, and then switches to “Manually Stopped” mode. Logs are attached.
Logs.zip (4.6 KB)

Server Version#: 1.30.0.6406-7000
Player Version#:

I see you used 1.21.0.3744 BETA from Package Center. It was only for DSM 7 BETA.

That doesn’t work anymore. We’re trying to get Synology to update it to 1.29.2

Whose guide did you use to upgrade from DSM 6 to DSM 7 ?
Specifically, Did you create user PlexMediaServer in advance of upgrading?

Do you still have your Plex server data in Plex / Library / Application Support / Plex Media Server ?

thanks for the quick response. To try and answer:
The 1.21…beta was installed from Package Center, but then I manually installed 1.30.0.6406-7000.

I didn’t follow a guide, so did not create that user before upgrading from DSM 6 to DSM 7. How bad is that? :upside_down_face:

The only thing in my Plex drive is Plex / tmp_transcoding

If you don’t have a previous/existing PMS server to bring along into DSM 7 then life gets MUCH easier

  1. Uninstall PMS using Package Center - Use the ERASE option.
    – We don’t want anything from that Beta version which is causing problems.

  2. Download PMS 1.29.2 (Public version - not PlexPass) from Plex and install it.

You should get a “PlexMediaServer” shared folder.
PMS should start up normally for you and allow you to claim it.

If that doesn’t work, I’ll give you some commands you can run using Task Scheduler to clean up the mess made by PMS 1.21.0.

BIG NOTE

If you have a Plex shared folder AND it has PMS server data in it.

Be prepared for the installer to want to Migrate (move) your server installation into the new DSM 7 structure.

It might complain about permissions, etc (expect it)
Do what it tells you and reinstall the same 1.29.2 again.

When it’s satisfied, it will sit “Installing” until all the work is complete.

I have a guide if you’d like to follow it.

That did it, thank you so much.
