# Privacy and streaming devices is some data shared?

But I was wondering what data is shared with streaming devices companies ?
For example do they have access to title played or not ? Libraries content etc ?
I am using Swisscom app for instance and was wondering what they have access too when I use the app.

You would need to ask Swisscom that. Not sure what having some other app on your device has to do with us.

What do you mean by “some other app” ?
I just added Plex as an app on the device if that’s what you mean … I was just wondering if Plex app shared some user info with third party like swisscom, but I guess I will (maybe) find my answer in the link you provided 😉

If you play a movie that we have that is provided by Crackle. then yes Crackle knows you watched it.

Swisscom is like an internet provider, right?
Plex doesn’t share data with internet providers. Why would they?
If your internet provider tried to find out, they’d have to break the encryption which Plex uses.
Plex will gather data about your use of plex. If you are playing something from your server, it will gather data for instance about what kind of file it was and if it was played back transcoded. All data is anonymized.
It is _not_ registered which movie, tv show or music title you are playing from your own server or from servers which might be shared with your account. All technical characteristics of media, which could be used to guess the particular title of the media are anonymized. For instance the bandwidth or length of a file is rounded very coarsely, so a curious person who wants to find out which movie you played by comparing the playtime with a database, will end up with hundreds, thousands, or even hundred thousands of potential matches.
If you are playing something from the online media sources (“Movies & TV on Plex”, Podcasts, Webshows, News etc) then yes, the owner of these medias get to know that someone played a particular file in country x, on a device of the type y and at roughly the time z. They _don’t_ get to know who exactly played the file.
