Pro and con of freenas plugin versus linux box for plexmediaserver

I have been running PMS on a linux (CentOS 6.x) virtual machine for a number of years. It is approaching time to update hardware due to age.

I am in the process of building and briging up FreeNAS on a small Supermicro box. Thus I was wondering what the advantages and disadvantages of each host for PMS would be. Let me say at the outset that the media will be hosted on the FreeNAS box. The Synology boxes that I have used for media have proven to be too unreliable.
