Problem since update iOS to Mojave

Server Version#: 1.14.0.5470
Player Version#: Don’t know, sorry

Since updating my IMac to the Mojave iOS, I can’t stream to my Chromecast. When trying to, it states ‘Loading’ on the Chromecast and then after a prolonged time it states, ‘Sorry there was a problem’. Incidentally, I also have a iPad Mini 1 which still works perfectly fine. Any help would be much appreciated, thank you.

Hi Plex Customer Support

Any chance of some help here?

Hi there. What are you using to cast to the Chromecast? Are you doing this from Safari on your iMac? Have you tried reinstalling Plex Media Server after the update? That may have changed something to PMS.

Can you please try again to reproduce the error, then grab the logs from PMS right away and upload them here for me to review.

Hi

No, I use Google Chrome as my browser.

I have reinstalled the Plex Media Server twice after the update. The last one being last night.

I am not a Techy so I don’t know what PMS is or how to ‘grab’ the logs from PMS either.

Can you tell me how to do it?

Regard

Ian

PMS is Plex Media Server, sorry. From the Plex app in Chrome go to your settings, then click on troubleshooting at the very bottom left, then download logs.

Good morning

Thank you for the concise instructions. They were much appreciated.

Please find attached the logs as requested.

Could you just post the entire zip file, please? Include it as an attachment to your comment instead of posting to Google Drive and sharing from there. You didn’t make the files public and I may need to review more than 1 file and I don’t want to have to ask for access for each file.

How about this?

Awesome, thanks. Looking now.

Thanks so much.

Sad you have to work on a Saturday.

What were you trying to play? I don’t see any attempts to cast. I do see trying to play from a Chrome browser, but it’s mostly paused.

Is that what you did? Started playing on Chome, paused, and tried to cast to the Chromecast? I’m not seeing the casting part in your log.

I do see that you have 2 IP addresses on your computer. It could be the computer is running on 1 subnet and your Chromecast is on another so it can’t work properly through your router.

Check the IP on your Chromecast to see if it is on the 192.168.1.x subnet.

Anything I try to play from Plex won’t cast to the Chromecast. I can cast to my TV with any other app like You Tube
without a problem when using the Chrome Browser.

When I try to cast from Plex, I see the Plex Logo in the top left corner on the TV screen and I see a message

which is ‘Loading, Playback will begin in a minute’. After a few minutes I get another message which ‘Sorry, Something went wrong’.

I usually start to play something in Plex and then cast it to the Chromecast.

The two IP addresses are one for Ethernet and one for WiFi.

If the computer was running on a subnet different to the Chromecast, how would I be able to cast a You Tube program to Chromecast?

I am trying to find the IP address for my Chromecast. Back shortly.

Are you actually using both connections simultaneously? That is not a good idea. Why are they on different subnets? You would only do that if you’re trying to separate the devices connected by ethernet from those connected via WiFi.

Dec 22, 2018 12:46:23.710 [0x70000be88000] DEBUG - NetworkService: Replacing an old server at index 1 and address 192.168.1.5 (we just got packet from 192.168.0.8, index 1)
Dec 22, 2018 12:46:23.710 [0x70000be88000] DEBUG - NetworkServiceBrowser: SERVER updated: 192.168.0.8 (Ian’s iMac)

Your server is switching between the 2 subnets. This makes things confusing. You really should disable one of these. The server will work better on Ethernet so I would keep that. The Chromecast is on Wifi so it’s probably on the other subnet. You should switch the WiFi to use the same subnet.

Ok, I will give that a try as suggested, thank you.

I reset the Chromecast to the original factory settings, disconnected the Ethernet and now everything is working fine again.

Thanks so much for all your help. I can assure you it is very much appreciated.

Happy Holidays.

So you disconnected the etherent and stuck to using WiFi. Please note that Plex Media Server may run into issues streaming over WiFi. Just something to look out for.

Thanks for your advice.

My Chromecast & TV use the WiFi so after Christmas I will reset everything to Ethernet.

Just a wee bit busy at the moment with Christmas around the corner
