# Problem with Czech Subtitles

Hello, I have a problem with Czech subtitles. Czech contains a lot of characters that plex can not read (ě,š,č,ř,ž,ý,á,í,é etc…). When I convert the encoding to UTF-8, it still does not work. The last time I tried it with Notepad ++.
Does anyone think how to change coding so it works?

Which Plex client is used?
Could you attach one of your converted files (zip it before attaching) ?

There are several ways to save it under UTF-8. None of them worked.

Another thing I do not understand is that I delete the subtitles from the movie folder and I will scan the files in PLEX. Plex still see headlines and offers, even if they are deleted long ago.
It almost seems like subtitles have not been updated. If I change the encoding and overwrite it.

I have taken your file unmodified and put it into my server.
It appears to work alright in Plex Web.
Which Plex client(s) are you using?

If it is the web app, go to
Settings - Web - Player - ‘Show Advanced’
and set ‘Burn Subtitles’ to ‘Only image formats’
If you are using a NAS as your server, you might want to use Plex Media Player instead of the web app.
(separate download, available above for free under DOWNLOADS)
Could you please describe the issue a bit more detailed?
Do the subtitles appear, but are unreadable?
Do the subtitles not appear at all?
Are the subtitles not selectable in the Plex user interface?

Hmm, i use WEB player, LG TV player and Android Player. Based on what you wrote about, the problem is somewhere else. If I overwrite the subtitle file in the movie folder, the Plex server will not notice this change. It’s as if the subtitles were in some cache.
If the subtitles are completely erased and I will restore the library, plex is still seeing them. So if I uploaded a new repaired version of the subtitles, the server will not even notice it.

Usually will notice a change automatically, when you leave the pre-play screen of one particular movie and re-enter it.

You can try to force it by performing a manual Analysis.

I used the same subtitles from the zip file I sent. I tagged the film as unseen, then analyzed. When I run the movie, the subtitles are wrong again. Practically exactly the same as before.

My OpenMediaVault runs on the Dell PE 2950III server in VmWare. Both processors and 10GB of RAM are available for their operation. I mentally tried to remove the entire library and create it again without success. Subtitles go wrong with most movies. Even though they are in UTF8 like the .zip I sent.

I don’t know OpenMediaVault. Since it is based on Linux, it might be an issue with `locale` settings.
May I see the [Plex XML info](https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/201998867-Investigate-Media-Information-and-Formats "Plex XML info") of that movie,
together with a Logfile zip, pulled immediately after the movie has been Refreshed and played for a minute?

There is xml of movie. But I probably already found where the problem is. I’ve been fighting for the last two hours. I came to see that the defective subtitles are external, from [opensubtitles.org](http://opensubtitles.org). If I turn off the agent, subtitles will disappear. The problem is that the subtitles that are in the folder along with the movie are not detected by the server.

I deleted the whole library with a movie where there are no headlines. After deleting, I recreated the library. Once I clicked on the movie, the subtitles appeared. But when they met with metadata, everything was gone. It seems that the plex of the subtitles knows, but something prevents them from displaying them in the selection.

Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - Plex Movie
Make sure the line ‘Local Media Assets’ has a checkmark.
(It does however _not_ need to be in the topmost position)
