I asked these questions in the public forum without receiving any answer.
I’m quite disappointed with Plex. I have read, that Plex was in trouble with PS3. I expected, that now, end of 2016, a PS3 can be used.
The navigation is so slow, that i barely can browse the library. I think, getting or generating the thumbnails of the covers takes too much time . This makes no fun at all and makes Plex not usable.
Secondly, i tried to watch a movie in the browser, which was not possible. Plex is not able to see the usual folder of a ripped DVD called video.ts. If i copy a movie to the root folder, plex finds the movie. Why not searching recursively?
Watching a movie isn’t still possible: “Conversation failed, The transcoder failed.”
Streaming simple mp4 files are possible.
Playing a HD-movie ripped from a disc isn’t possible too.
What a disappointment! I think, i wasted 40 Dollars.
I had the EXACT same problem when I put Plex on my daughter’s PS3
What I did was simply re-boot the PS3 and it came back as a lot more usable. (Not exactly great… LOL)
At least my daughter can and has used it continually without having any complaints. Keeping my fingers crossed.
LOL
Been a while since I’ve played with a PS3, but about 6 months ago it was by far the worst Plex client I had seen. And it hasn’t been updated much since then.
The platform Sony gave Plex to write their app is just poor… Even on the Ps4 I get weird issues, buffering, freezing, etc. that I don’t get on other platforms.
So i’m not allone ;-( I will ask the company for a refund of my subscription. This is not acceptable for me.
I have found a different software to stream my movies over the PS3, which works like a charm.

What software? If you mean you use some server and stream from the playstation media player app, Plex can do that too, that’s Dlna… Supports more formats than the plex app, but looks terrible.
Also if you do stream to other devices (Even DLNA), most DLNA only streaming servers do not transcode.
Soo. be sure your media is in a format that the PS3 can handle
I mean hell, even Windows Media Player can act as a DLNA server… BUT is will not transcode. Meaning, not all your devices may be able to play the media.
This is the main reason I use Plex. Not to mention the great UI.
While I’m not going to pretend the PS3 is a great Plex client, I’d have to disagree that its not acceptable. It functions significantly better than it used to. Yes, the interface is a little slow, but its still functional.
All my media is BD rips and I use Handbrake to encode to a high profile MP4 file w/ AC3 5.1 audio. I can direct play me media without issues on my PS3.
It’s not my main client, but I do use it from time to time when I see updates get released for it.
