I am not a server master so excuse any noobness on my part.
Last week or so a bunch of movies and TV series have become unplayable. All the files up until then have played just fine. Just spinning ring of death. I found the error below and tried some things to try and fix the issue.

I have restarted the server and the docker container on Unraid. I ran a force update with no help. Per a suggestion I found online I deleted the codecs folder in the appdata directory and restarted plex. It did allow the videos to play but, the videos are horrible quality, I’d say 480 or so. The option for changing the quality is no even showing. The files types are random one movie 1080p (H.264) and plays just fine another is the same and will not play. I looked into the Plex appdata folder permissions all are read/write.

Have attempted to play on an PC with brave and edge. The files play on my android phone just fine. Just not on any computers. Any suggestions?

A full `inotify` table can cause EAE timeouts. Increasing the size of the table may help: [Linux Tips - General Discussions / Tips, Tricks & How-Tos - Plex Forum](https://forums.plex.tv/t/linux-tips/276247/9)

I will look into this for sure. Would this issue only affect windows? The files play fine on android and ios.

The difference would be transcoding versus direct play. It sounds like Brave/Edge has to transcode the audio (browsers have notoriously poor codec support), invoking Easy Audio Encoder, which encounters this error. Android and iOS support the video/audio codec, so it’s direct playing, so doesn’t need to call into EAE.

I’d bet that if you used the [dedicated desktop app](https://www.plex.tv/media-server-downloads/#plex-app) instead of the web app on your Windows machine, it would play directly.

Yes it does work thank you. I’m not sure what could of made it have issues all the sudden. I never used the app before. Always the browser. Been using Plex for like 6 or 7 years. Browser is just easier. Anywhere I can go to get maybe more compatible codecs that will work with the web player? Or any other recommendations on how to better handle this issue?

It’s unlikely to run into issues with a small library, but as you add more folders to your library, the number of `inotify` slots increases, and it sounds like you’re just now hitting the limit.

Not that I know of. Some browsers might have slightly better support than others, but you’ll e.g. never get DTS audio to direct play.

The link in my first comment should be the resolution (and [this post](https://forums.plex.tv/t/problems-transcoding-files-with-eac3-sound/864826/4) goes into a bit more details about why the `inotify` causes EAE errors).

Yea for sure ill look into it see if that could be the issue. I have almost 9k movies and about 200 series and about 60k music. But about 4 months ago I pruned about 120 TV series. This is actually the smallest my library has been in years.
