Reinstall on Synology 918+ - not seeing server

Server Version#: PlexMediaServer-1.18.0.1944-f2cae8d6b-x86_64.spk
Player Version#: Didn’t get that far

So I have a synology 918+. I had Plex working ok. But then got a new HD to add to my array.
So I moved my media from the NAS, wiped the array and reinstalled. I installed the newer version of Plex 1.18 and moved my media back.

When I start Plex, it looks to create the right folders and permissions. But when I open the web UI, it never even attempts to look for a server.

Any ideas what I might be doing wrong?

Thanks.,
Jim

Think if I understand your issue, you would need to point the Plex server to your media folders on your NAS. Be it TV, Movies, Music etc… then it will start to populate as it scans the folders.

If I may augment,

PMS knows of your old server by it’s Server ID number.
Since you’re starting over, that old ID number is no longer valid.

Open App.plex.tv (the web browser version)
Sign into your account
Settings - Authorized Devices - Servers

Remove the old server instance you just deleted.

Now sign out of your plex account.

Open an incognito window to http://ip.addr.of.syno:32400/web and start the claim/setup process.

Unfortunately, I deleted my plex.tv account and re-associated the new server with the new account. Having said that, is there any way to remove the old claim?

If you deleted the old account. Everything should be gone.
Anything left over is in your browser cache (which you now need to purge all the Plex tokens from)

Please help me understand the events around you adding another drive.

Under normal circumstances:

  1. Install drive, DSM initializes.
  2. Add to disk group / volume
  3. Increase Volume1 size to use all available space

In this sequence, nothing need be destroyed. It’s how DSM works with RAID
It might take 2 days but it will be fully accessible the entire time.

Where did your steps deviate?

Odd. I’ve done that. I don’t even get the “looking for server” status. The local Plex account from my nas looks exactly like the plex.tv account. It looks like a new version released on 10/11. Any chance I can try the older version? Is it available?

I changed raid config to leverage all 4 drives. So I re-initialized all, then moved media back.

Understood.

Ok… when you did that, I presume you did:

  1. Install PMS
  2. Then something along the lines of: Give user Plex permission to read your media shares…
  3. http://ip.addr.of.syno:32400/web to claim and complete setup ?

Yep. Exactly.

Ok. I just had a long chat with one of the PMS engineers.
We think we figured part of this out.

Do you have an older version of PMS handy?

If you don’t, I have one to use to help get things going.

I don’t. Can you share the most recent before the current?
