# Remote Access // is it free?

I know that this feature was previously a premium feature, but after browsing the official website I can’t seem to find references to that feature.
Is this meant to be a free or paid service?

Basic remote streaming (especially for yourself when on the road) is free.

Only when you need finer restrictions (when sharing with other users) than per-library, you need the Plex Pass because it allows you to define ‘whitelisting labels’ which can be ‘stuck’ onto each media item individually.

crazy networking question: I noticed that while my VPN is running, remote access is not allowed. What settings should I be looking to adjust inside the VPN?

Sorry, debugging remote access while VPN is running is a pain. I rather not touch this.

I’m using ProXPN and found that in the settings I could add the Plex application to the VPN guard settings which enabled remote access! I hope this helps someone in the future.
