I had a forwarded port and everything and remote access just decided to stop working yesterday.

It had remote access, and then all of a sudden it didn’t know either IP even though i just went into my router and created a static IP, and it sat there and spooled “connecting server” for a half hour.

I’m this close to just throwing this thing out.

fix it!!

Fix what, exactly?

It sounds like you made some network changes around the time this problem arose. What were they, exactly?

At any rate, I’d suggest restarting your host system (Windows?) and then logging in and checking again.

okay, I changed it back, and now it says it’s got full remote access again

but Plexamp still cannot connect remotely.

I’d suggest fully restarting your Plexamp client.

I force stopped plexamp, and then opened it again, and I got

“we had an issue getting data”

yet again

Okay, Plexamp was able to connect this morning after I woke up and booted up the phone.

Did you mean I needed to reboot my phone? Maybe that is what did it.

I did need to re-enable Remote Access this morning.

I generally have to re-enable Remote Access every morning. Is there something I can do about that too? Maybe DNS related?

Does your computer go to sleep overnight? There is a bug with pms losing connection when the computer goes to sleep.

i am running Plex on a server separate from my PC.

(i only selected windows, because that’s the version i am using.)

I will post logs when i get off work.

FYI… Your public ip and the port you opened on the router is in that screenshot above. Hackers maybe very happy to see this.

so, after working all day yesterday, I cannot get the remote access to stay in green this morning at all.

It’ll go green, and then when I refresh the page it’ll be red again.

also, where do i download the logs zip file?

This link will show you how to download the [server logs.](https://support.plex.tv/articles/200250417-plex-media-server-log-files/)

As an FYI… there is a flaw in the way plex reports remote access, it will default to green NO MATTER WHAT and then once if it figures out that its not working will revert to red. To confirm if everything is setup correctly on your end you can use [https://canyouseeme.org](https://canyouseeme.org), if it fails there something is off. I’d start by checking the port forwarding on your router, local firewalls and anything that could be blocking external access.

Also, I notice you don’t seem to have a plex pass, don’t you need that nowadays to stream remotely ? I could be wrong as I have a pass and have been ignoring the changes from plex in regard to this.

</div>

about the port forwarding

does that have to be added to the router again if there is, say, a brown-out/involuntary shut down or restart?

I went to check it earlier this week and it was gone. I had to set it up again.

</div>

Whatever port you added on your router is the one want to use on the plex remote access configuration screen. If you changed the port on the router then you might need to give it a reboot, really depends on the router but wont’t hurt to restart it.

I’d recommend picking something other than 32400 as your public port. Less chance of a hacker guessing it. Have you seen this doc [https://support.plex.tv/articles/200931138-troubleshooting-remote-access](https://support.plex.tv/articles/200931138-troubleshooting-remote-access). While a little detailed is pretty good.

okay, here are my logs

> Also, I notice you don’t seem to have a plex pass, don’t you need that nowadays to stream remotely ? I could be wrong as I have a pass and have been ignoring the changes from plex in regard to this.

as far as I know, you only need PlexPass to stream remotely from other people’s servers, not your own.

You can stream music remotely on Plexamp for free, but for many Plex video clients now you need either a Remote Watch Pass or a full Plex Pass. Even for your own server.

Disable Verbose logs and restart Plex Media Server. In verbose mode the logs are not as useful.
