Remote login iOS app slow to connect

Server Version#: Synology PMS latest
Player Version#:

When I am away and using wifi or LTE it is always very slow to connect iOS Plex app to the server. It always take 2 trials to connect.
When at home it is very fast and I get it since it’s a local connection. For remote access the connection is very slow. When remote the app connects through Plex.tv servers and what I wonder is why this becomes a bottleneck and why it takes up to 30 seconds to just connect. Any ideas?

So it says it is an indirect connection? those are limited to 2mbps and I suppose depending on your cell signal strength and just general latency it could be slow.

If I configure my iOS app with the server IP would that make it a direct connection? I have to try it but I think it should. Doing this and if it works should speed up downloads but the connection speed would be the same since it connects to Plex.tv site. Wonder if Plex is doing anything to improve this…

After authentication takes place it will try to connect directly to your server. If it cannot for some reason then it will do the indirect route through our relay server. The relay servers are only meant to give you have something rather than not connecting at all.

If it does not say indirect, then it is a direct connection just a bad connection which could be due to many different things.

I never get indirect connection warning. Using LTE is very fast in my city and I can assure you it’s fast. Still when I use iOS app the first time it connect it takes good 20 seconds and I get a message offline. Then I try again by swiping down and it connects within 5 seconds. So I have to do it twice. Once it’s connected I get pretty good performance. It’s only that initial authentication steps that take a long time and have to do it twice using the app.
