Rename folder on file system, but the new and old folder show up in the library

Server Version#: 1.25.2.5319
Player Version#:

I’ve been having issues with a library for a while now, I’ve recreated it and still develops the issue.

If I rename a folder the library shows the old folder name, AND the new folder name. the old folder just shows as an empty folder when you click on it. So when I clean up, reorganize the file system it ends up with a lot of random folders still shown making the folder view very cluttered and disorganized.

I cant find a way to convince Plex to clean up those orphaned links either (I’ve forced a scan, empty trash, etc…) The file system is NTFS on Server 2022."

I’ve noticed that if I delete folders entirely or move them to another drive and move them back I can clean some of it up, but its not consistent. In a test I just did, I moved a series of folders out and even deleted the folder level above. and the orphaned folders still show up.

This seems like a bug in terms of how the database cleans up removed items/folders… and renaming things really breaks a lot. The only way I can seem to fix it is to delete and rebuild the library!

“Clean library” has no effect if any of the folders which have been added to the Plex library has been:

  • deleted
  • renamed
  • emptied completely

So, edit your library,
go to the “Add folders” tab
and remove all folders which are as described above.

Then “Scan library files”, followed by “empty trash”.
