Whats a good replacement for Plex that will run offline? It is sad that after being a Plex Pass member for years that I still have to deal with this BS… no Internet in Texas and cant watch my own movies and TV shows on my own NAS that has a copy of software that I paid for… Time for a change any suggestions? ---

I live in Texas as well and my AT&T internet went down as well. But I was still able to stream my movies in my house with DLNA on. ---

Sorry that is not a solution, if it works on a device (Roku) with Internet it should work the same way without it. I dont want to have to sit in front on my PC to watch a movie. There is definite loss of functionality. Why does Plex even need Internet access? There is no reason that should be required. ---

Emby? (Works just about anywhere Plex does.) Kodi? If you are using Android. Another way to go is simply browse to the movie you want to watch and play it via VLC or some such. BTW: I have no problem with accessing Plex or Emby when my internet is out. I do not use remote access and I enter all my server addresses manually rather than using the Plex website. After that it just works. ---

From your PC sure, but try it from something like a Roku. Loss of functionality that should not happen. ---

Thanks, i will check those out. I can access from a PC fine, its when I try it from anything attach to my TV (Roku) that there is an issue. ---

I have my media on my pc and can still watch my movies with no internet on my Samsung TV, Nvidia Shield and a Roku. ---

Lol, there might be some setting on your server or router that you must of over look. But it is possible. Double check your settings when you have a chance. ---

Here is the problem, when you first install your PLEX media server, the setup Wizard should have asked you questions and helped set up local access, or sent you to the article that tells how to set it up. ---

I make my own assumptions about someone who had PlexPass access to the forums but didn’t bother to search for how to have Plex work offline. Instead, they chose to just ask what else beside Plex would. ---

I also live in Texas, Denton Texas. I had rolling blackouts for two days, if I had power then my internet provider didn’t. At last I had power come back on steady, but the internet remained dead. I had my WiFi, and LAN up through my WIFI router, but my Cable Modem was down so no internet. Being that I am just a free Plex member I should have local access but not remote access. So I fired up my computer, then went to my living room to watch Plex on my TLC Roku TV. Plex said that my server was offline, huh say what? Back to my computer I went, the Plex server is running, movies play in the web player just fine. I try my new “Chromecast with google TV” with Plex app installed, it also says my Plex server is offline. So I called it quits for the night and read a book instead. Now I have internet, both Roku and “Chromecast with google TV” Plex apps work just fine. I have been googling “Plex and No Internet”, and it seems like this is a long ongoing problem. ---

Set Server Security to: Preferred Set Client Security to: Fallback to insecure on local network only Restart Server You need the internet to set up Plex, update Roku, etc… but if the unthinkable happens - local stuff works fine. I live in WV - the Heartland of Intermittent Internet and all is well. ---
