Roku app doesn't display show/movie posters unless you forcibly restart the app

Sometimes when the TCL Roku TV is turned on after shutting all the way off and waiting for it to time out of the quick-power-on state, when opening the Plex app, all shows and movies are missing their posters. They just have white text on a gray background.

I just tried testing this and of course I can’t reproduce it. Nonzero chance it has something to do with the router restarting overnight and the TV not getting a new IP address before it turns on, but I can’t test that at this moment. I’ll try it later.

I am able to reliably fix this issue temporarily by returning to the Roku Home page and forcibly restarting the Plex app using the asterisk (*) menu.

Try pulling the power cable from the TV for 30 seconds or so.

Roku’s restart via system menu isn’t a reset and lots of stuff can still be cached - even after doing a channel restart via * menu - and pulling the power cable is the only way to fully clear it. I’ve found pulling the power cable can clear these types of oddities sometimes when restarts don’t.
