I am running a Plex server on my Synology 1812+, the client is the Plex app running on a Roku 4. The problem I am running into is transcoding, my Synology obviously does not have the horsepower to perform this task.

I am not concerned with streaming outside of my home (over the internet), my only need is to play my blu-ray’s at full quality over my Roku. I have been ripping my Blu-ray discs using MKV passthrough so I get the best quality possible. Unfortunately, the Synology is attempting to transcode almost everything in my library resulting in constant loading screens. I noticed that a few of my movies (Spiderman 2 and Surrogates) are playing well enough. After some comparisons, I noticed that the video on these two movies are direct streaming but the audio is transcoding (ac3). I cannot identify what is different with the other movies because I used MKV passthrough for everything I ripped. All of them are using AC3 and all of them have some sort of subtitle file, which I have off (including the files that play well).

My question is, what is the proper conversation I should be using to eliminate any transcoding while at home? I would like to maintain the same level of quality, so I will not be compressing.
