Running plex MS on Vero 4K+?

investigating the Plex options here and wondered if the Vero 4K+ running OSMC will be enough to run the plex MS? I know it must be able to transcode video so is the Vero have enough horsepower or no?
I’m trying to avoid using my Windows pc for streaming my movie library.
Thanks!

Hi,
I was wondering the same. Have used the Vero 4K+ as a Kodi server as intended, but … Kodi isn’t Plex and I already have quite a bit of time etc invested in Plex. I found an older forum thread on the OSMC site that suggests it might be possible: OSMC.tv
Would be interested if anyone else has tried this recently with a 4K.

I posted a similar question on the Vero forum and the feedback is it will work ok if you don’t require any transcoding…which I may at some point. I may just pass on the idea although I do want the Vero 4K+. How do you like yours?

It looks like the transcoding issue might be to do with storage space, or rather lack of it, on the Vero. I noticed mention of it in the thread referenced above and it seems they overcame it by using a different temp directory on a USB drive.

I did find the instructions for installing PMS on armhf (arm64) Debian / Ubuntu / Raspberry Pi which I might try when the wife is out for an evening. It looks like something I could manage, I have previously gotten PMS working on a Western Digital My Passport Wireless USB drive, the Vero should be a lot more appropriate. The instructions are here

The Vero 4K+ is a really well conceived bit of kit. It works really well with plenty of excellent features and great support - I can even use my LG TV remote for most of the everyday functions thanks to HDMI-CEC built-in. It picked up my HDHomeRun box without me doing anything and stuff like pic quality and streaming are excellent. Coupled with PlexKodiConnect (PKC) I can stream from my current Plex server through Kodi, and again that all just works mostly. The only issue I have really is encouraging the wife to use it, try as I might she still prefers the Plex client on the TV and, now, she also wants some Amazon Alexa involvement. Unfortunately Kodi and Alexa are harder to get playing together than Plex and Alexa, so I got to wondering and ended up here …

Thanks for the additional info! I may just pass on plex and stick with Kodi. I want smooth 4K streaming of my UHD blu rays with Dolby Atmos etc. I’ll store the rips on my NAS. Kodi on the Vero seem like the best solution for what I’m after;)

Would probably be best - the few 4K rips I’ve tried played flawlessly on the Vero, more than can be said of the LG Plex client …

My only gripe with Kodi on the Vero is that there is just too much to configure - makes for some very late nights!

Anyway, if the Vero can run Plex then you can always give it a spin later.

If I have any joy installing PMS on my Vero I’ll report back here.

Sounds like a good plan. I too have often got stuck up late tinkering:). Just looking to simplify things and value reliability these days! Keep us posted.

As another LG TV user finding it can’t handle larger (4K HDR) titles, would you still recommend the Vero 4K+ to run Plex on?

I’d be looking to simply get the best image I can out of it, and pass through audio to my Onkyo 646 amp without transcoding…

Do you find the remote friendly? And you can turn it on, and get into Plex quickly and easily?

Well, if memory serves me right, I did a bit more research and decided it was beyond my ability to install Plex Server on the Vero 4K. Maybe someone who has previously ported Plex to a different chip set may be able to help in this respect.

As it stands I use PlexKodiConnect (PKC) under Kodi on the Vero to connect to my existing Plex server, this is really straight forward to set up in Kodi and works pretty seamlessly. My main bugbear with this set up is that it’s not Plex, nor the newest Plex interface. However it does integrate well with Kodi. There’s also an official Kodi Plex add-on but I don’t really have any knowledge of that.

You shouldn’t have any issues with with 4K media and audio passthrough, it’s what the Vero excels at plus the support is superb if you do run into issues.

WRT the remote, the Vero remote is fine, however I actually use the LG TV remote as the Vero has HDMI-CEC support built-in. If your LG TV supports this function then it should be easy to use. It does mean navigation etc is familiar for other users.

There’s a sale on the Vero at the moment so it’s a good time to buy a very good bit of kit. I hope that someone can port Plex Server to it as it seems like it should be more than capable of running it.
