Today my Samsung TV cannot connect to my Plex Server.
Closing the App does not help.
Turning the TV off/on does not help.
Logout/Login does not help.

All I see is warning triangles on all my media folders.

Another user on my Plex has the same problem, he also has a Samsung TV.
Samsung UE55KS9005TXXE

Plex works fine on my Mobile phone, and Web browser.

My Samsung TV has the Plex v5.25.2

Allowing insecure connections worked for me too.
It is not a good workaround.

Why does it no longer work with secure connections?
I have not configured my Plex with any certificates, but I did set `Secure Connections` to `Required`.
In order for the workaround to work, I had to set it to `Preferred`.

What happened?
How do I get secure connections back?

Same issue with my Samsung Q90R. 570 stuff seems to play fine. 1080 and it is hit and miss but mostly i get the dreaded **Playback error an unexpected playback problem has occurred.**.

i thought it was synology NAS sever issue and reinstalled the whole sever and same issue.

do we think this Plex issue or Tizen issue?

It’s 100% a tizen issue, look here. [Important information about Plex for smart TVs after September 30, 2021](https://forums.plex.tv/t/important-information-about-plex-for-smart-tvs-after-september-30-2021/746506)

I have a Samsung TV from 2016.

This effectively means you would have to buy a new TV every 5 years or so.

> These devices are no longer supported by their manufacturers, and won’t be receiving an update needed to continue making secure connections to a personal server.

What update does these TVs need?

Is there any way to fix this ourself. I can see Plex Server has configuration for Certificates setup. Could this be the solution, if I acquired a certificate for my Plex Server?

Using Insecure connection does not really solve the problem. I do not like streaming my plex content insecure over the Internet.

disabling secure connections on same network on the TV app itself resolves the problem. set server to secure connections preferred.

My remote access has however gone down as well. I expect this is all related to the expiry of the Lets encrypt certificates. not letting insecure connections outside my LAN thats for sure

Only had my TV for a year which seems pretty darn rubbish that is how long we can expect plex to work for.

This effectively means you don’t rely on the smarts of your tv to drive your streaming experience. Ever. Get with it, and buy an external device that is far cheaper to replace, while your display works just fine.

Your display still works. Manufacturers obsolete their devices in short time, and when they do, that’s it. No support, no updates. In this case, said devices won’t receive an update that fixes the root certificate authority expiration that was hard coded into their device. No, you can’t fix that yourself.

My Plex Server has its own IP address, while my TV and computers are on a different network.
Therefor allowing insecure on same network does not work in my case.

It seems that is the way to go.
I am tired of having obsolete TVs.

I am going to look into external boxes instead of relying on Samsung Tizen.

What has Plex changed in its App, so that it no longer work on Samsung Tizen?

The announcement it saying something about a _cert change_.
Is it possible to fix this by getting a new certificate and configuring my Plex Server to use that certificate? The Plex Server has certificate settings in the Network section.

I’ve come to the conclusion that using a smart tv alone is always going to have negatives, and the addition of a streaming box (Apple TV, nvidia shield, fire stick, etc) is preferable.

AFAIK a whole bunch of free ssl certificates expired within the last few days and I guess all these products and websites out there were using them, without an apparent plan to renew them, so it’s been creating a lot of havoc in a lot of places. I think this is Samsung’s fault. But then I’ve also heard it blamed on a recent server update by Plex so ¯\_(ツ)\_/¯

I can get the versions and logs upon request but for now:

I saw the announcement which i presumably a result of the spate of certificate errors the internet is suffering from:

> UPDATE: It appears that all Tizen-based Samsung sets are likely affected by the cert change and will thus need the app and server configured to allow insecure connections. On September 30, 2021, some older smart TVs (some Samsung, LG, Vizio, Hisense, and other unsupported TV platforms) will no longer be able to use secure connections to communicate with Plex Media Servers. These devices are no longer supported by their manufacturers, and won’t be receiving an update needed to continue making se…

Anyway, the server and TV were already set to that, but we still get the error. This just started within the last two weeks. Plus, this is a UN65RU7300FXZA, which I think is less than two years old, so not an “older” Samsung.

Anyone know what to do? Or is there a fix coming put? Everything seems fully updated. I did put in a new router, an Eero Pro 6, do I need to open any ports? The server is remote, outside the local network of the TV.

Server Version#: 4.63.0
Player Version#: 5.25.2
Playback error an unexpected playback problem occurred on samsung tizen tv.

I have version 5 so should not be the secure connection issue?
