Scan Library not Finding New Media

I added 3 movies to my library, but with repeated scans, restarts of computer and drive etc. Plex is not seeing the new media.

Make sure that the files you have added are valid video files (by playing them with e.g. VLC).
Try to perform the Plex Dance with the affected files.

inspect the log file Plex Media Scanner.log
do the added movie files appear in there?
If they don’t, Plex didn’t see them.

If they do, they were probably added as a second ‘version’ to an already existing item.
Look out for a little 2 on top of an item’s poster.
(or filter your library for ‘duplicates’)

side note: I see that you are simply using a ‘Personal Video’ library type. If you only added the release year in parentheses to your movie file names, it could look a lot nicer - with all the posters and infos.

It did grab them as duplicates. Weird. Thanks!

I had the same problem of scans not picking up media. Some from an initial load of a library, and none of my newly added media was getting picked up. I tried scanning at both the library level and the overall level. I’ve heard ‘deep scan’ mentioned but I don’t know what that is or how to invoke it (from the web browser).

The last thing I tried was to just delete the whole library and re-add it (pointing to the same source folders, and with the existing naming). The re-load picked up all of the media.

NOTE: I’m now going through my other libraries, comparing media counts in PLEX to the media counts in the source folders. Some are 100%, others not, and I’m repeating the delete (empty trash / clean bundles), re-add library.

Hopefully I won’t need to do this each time I add new media to my collection.

How to find the discrepancy between number of files on disk and the number of movies in the Plex movie library
