# Screen burn-in levelling

Would it be possible to add the ability to ever-so-slowly bounce the video around a screen if the video is a different aspect ratio than the screen? This would be nice for burn-in susceptible displays like plasma and OLED

I guess you’re asking if say your TV is 16:9, but the content you happen to be watching is 2.35:1 you want it to move up and down the screen, slowly/imperceptibly, so that it avoids burn in, right?
I mean, it’s a good idea, however, are there any other devices (Bluray/UHD/DVD Players) or anything that already do this? I’ve never heard of such a thing, so I am curious now. I am aware of TV’s that do this automatically for like news casts, but I never considered what those same TV’s might do for an aspect ratio different than it’s own…

Correct, and 4:3 content on my 16:9 device.
That’s great that ancient technology like DVD and BR might do this, but I use plex for my content viewing.

Yes it still exists in many homes. The one I’m in now has it as well. I’m not looking for an excuse to buy a new set.
I have _never_ seen any oled device do this. Specifically I’m talking about phones and tablets.

To be fair, I asked if other devices did this, and said I had never heard of such a thing. But that OLED TV’s do this automatically to avoid burn in of things that are static on the screen (news stations that have static imagery, and tv stations that use constant logos at the bottom of the screen).
As far as phones and tablets go, there currently is no tech that does this for phones and tablets. This type of feature is something that is typically included in the hardware, not via software. It is something that likely COULD be implemented, but with OLED screens taking up such little market share (even in the phone and tablet world) it’s likely not going to be a priority.
I would honestly reach out to the manufacturer of your various OLED devices and ask them to build this into the firmware of their screens rather than asking for all the media applications to build it into their respective platforms, since the precedent is already set with newer OLED TV’s already doing this.
