With the Plex Pass app the Recently added seem to default to shows. You then click on those to get to the episodes. Anyway, a minor issue. A more important one is with Movies where Serenity has to fetch all the movies first before you can get to the categories. Not ideal for large libraries.
Am really liking Serenity. It's very stable and the external player option is great.
A preference for which category to display would be very nice.
I've just implemented the preference setting for Starting Category filter. You have the following options and they apply both to Movies and TV Shows.
1. All - the default setting - displays all movies or tv shows.
2. Newest - displays a list of movies/episodes starting with the most recently by date.
3. Recently Added - display movies or tv shows that have been recently added.
4. On Deck - display according to the Plex derived logic for the next item to be played.
5. Unwatched - List only Unwatched Movies or TV Shows with unwatched episodes.
This should allow for larger video collections to load quicker.
This will be in 1.2.0 scheduled for release in 3 or 4 weeks. Maybe sooner depending on how far i get with the other items I want for 1.2.

Are you using the version from the Play Store or downloaded from Serenity's download page? If you are using the version from the play store, you should get an option to send back any Force Closes. This will help me debug what is happening. I'm not doing anything special besides just pass the Intent information on to MX Player. So any crash reports reported back through Google Play would help.
1.2.1 is really nice. Much smoother and the default Starting Category is very nice. I have mentioned this before but perhaps not in the right way. The way newly added TV shows works is it displays a horizontal list of episodes. The same for recently aired. Instead of putting the actual episode and its description an option to display the show would be nice. Of course you would lose out on the immediate description with that option. This is the way Plex handles recently aired or added. The reason you want this is that you may not have seen the most recently aired/added. So you have to get back to previous episodes which is a bit inconvenient. Would it be possible to keep the category view you have now ( by episode with its description) but to add a quick way of getting back to previous episodes?
Anyway, very nice upgrade. Ratings would be the icing on the cake!
Ok sent you some crash reports let me know if you need more. Really like serenity hope you can get it working gonna try it on my mk802 and mk808 this weekend.

Thanks for the crash reports. I think I see what is happening and can have a fix to work around the issue. Question, were you using the Grid View to start the playback of the movies. As the issue occurred because the code was expecting the Poster/Gallery view to be available but it couldn't find it. So wasn't able to get the currently selected item so it could update the offset position of the currently played video.
I should have this fixed in a bug fix release in the next day or so. Look for it in 1.2.2.

If I understand correctly, we could do a Long press option, which would allow you to go to the Parent Show's All episodes browser. But again best to open an enhancement request so we can work through the details.
I do plan on adding the Ratings into the views, just didn't make it into this latest release. Please open an enhancement request on the projects site so that I don't loose track of the request.
Version 1.2.2 is rolling out with the fix for the Force Close when returning from External player when Serenity is in Grid View. Tested this on my Nexus 7.
I use the Vizio CoStar and have loved your product, having used it for a while now. However, after the recent upgrade my black levels on playback are horrible. No longer do I have a black screen, more mid to light gray.
Nothing changed in the app that would affect this. Not sure if the Co STAR has gotten any updates. I used to have one before it died, and now do development on a Sony device.
Having trouble with long menu names. I have 1.2.4 purchased from Google Play running on Logitech Revue at Android 3.2. I am running PMS on Ubuntu 12.04 32-bit serving video files from Win7 Ult. 64-bit and DLink NAS shared to the Ubuntu machine with Samba. Although a feature list for Serenity 1.1.0 earlier in this thread says that when a library is selected that it will scroll in marquee style, none of my libs are scrolling, which is a problem, since all of my libs are more than 11 chars long. Even worse, when a lib is selected it only displays 2.8 uppercase chars or only ~3.5 lowercase chars. I do not see any Setting to change this behavior.
First off, thank you for developing this. It shows great promise and what little i have been able to test on my Vizio Co-Star, has shown it to be more capable than the Plex for Android app. This question may have been answered, but as I could not find it, I will ask anyways. If I am reading this correctly, this app is based off of the Home Theater Plex Application and as such we should have "context" menus. While I read the section on what keys to press ('C' - long press), I am unable to get my Co-Star Remote (cool one by the way) to work with "long presses". So i guess i have two questions. First, as a user of the Co-Star yourself, are you using the remote/keyboard pad that came with it, or another remote and if so, how long is a "long press". Second, if this is based on the Plex Home Theater Application and has context menus, do we have the option for "Play All", that we only seem to have on the PC Applications and Samsung App? thank you for your time and effort.
