Recently did a metadata refresh on my TV library and found that the following shows are missing entirely from the Plex database, although they are present in both TVDB and TMDB:

Breakthrough (2015)
[https://thetvdb.com/series/breakthrough](https://thetvdb.com/series/breakthrough)

> **[Breakthrough](https://www.themoviedb.org/tv/64220-breakthrough)**
>
> Providing a thought-provoking and imaginative perspective on scientific discovery as it unfolds, each episode follows scientific explorers working on cutting-edge projects with breakthrough potential, revealing the world of tomorrow... today.

Fury Files (2012)
[https://thetvdb.com/series/343940-show](https://thetvdb.com/series/343940-show)

> **[Fury Files](https://www.themoviedb.org/tv/103396-fury-files)**
>
> The mysterious Fury gives viewers top-secret access to S.H.I.E.L.D. intel on key Marvel heroes and villains by bringing together a mix of animation and motion comic art.

Hillside (1991)
[https://thetvdb.com/series/hillside](https://thetvdb.com/series/hillside)

> **[Hillside](https://www.themoviedb.org/tv/3889-hillside)**
>
> Hillside (known as Fifteen in the United States) is a Canadian-American teen drama that aired on YTV in Canada from 1991 to 1993. Created and produced by John T. Binkley, the series was Nickelodeon's only teenage soap opera. The show was shot on...

Just an FYI…

Why do you think they’re missing?

Breakthrough (2015) → Matches fine for me, looks OK.

Fury Files (2012) →

This is broken for sure, with a name of _ **dupe** _ in the Plex database (really) and linked to these:

```auto
plex://show/5d9c08f7d4f2a9001f80486a
<Guid id="imdb://tt12433310"/>
<Guid id="tmdb://103396"/>
<Guid id="tvdb://381917"/> <- source of "dupe"
<Guid id="tvdb://343940"/>
```

Hillside (1991) → this appears fine for me. Matches with _ **Hillside** _; shows up as _ **Fifteen** _ when set to US.

</div>

Missing as in do not exist at watch.plex.tv, which is the aggregated internal database Plex uses to match things. Try doing a metadata refresh on those shows and see what happens. They also must have been in the database at some point, because they matched fine about seven months ago when I switched to the new scanner and did my initial metadata refresh.

I just created test files to play with, and they matched OK. Does `Fix Match` not find them for you?

Well, except Fury Files, which is horked.

I was going to suggest naming them with imdb/tmdb IDs, but …

… wait … if these were previously matched for you, are you saying they’ve now spontaneously _unmatched_?

</div>

I’m sure you know all this, but when you do a metadata refresh on stuff that had previously been matched, it doesn’t unmatch the entire show if there is a discrepancy in the metadata. What it will do, though, is mark individual episodes as unmatched. This happens whether a show is in the Plex database or not. It’s then up to the user to figure out what happened. In my case, on this refresh it had only unmatched about 600 episodes out of a total of 120k+. Not bad at all, actually. I was able to fix a few shows manually, either by editing the episodes to match the current TVDB, or by doing the [Plex Dance](https://forums.plex.tv/t/the-plex-dance/197064). Those three mentioned above I have been unable to fix, and I figured this is because they aren’t in the Plex DB at all.

> [@Volts](#):

Fix Match finds them, but it will not pull metadata, because it can’t find any, since these shows aren’t in the aggregated DB.

</div>

Ahh. I didn’t look for episode-level info. I agree _ **Hillside** _ and _ **Fury Files** _ are busted.

Breakthrough looks OK? I get Show & Episode details:

```auto
.../Breakthrough (2015)/Season 2015/S2015E01.mkv
```

Season naming for it is different, maybe?

I’ll have to try that one again tonight. Naming here is Breakthrough/S2015/Breakthrough.S2015E01.\*.mkv, but a fix match the other day did not fix it.

Thanks for your testing, btw. I did intend this post as just an FYI to the Plex DB admins 🙂

For Hillside at least, try changing the episode ordering to “The Movie Database (Aired)” in the show’s advanced settings. This allows it to pull limited metadata, at least on my test files.

I wanted to either -

1. Pile on, to agree there’s an issue so folks will look into it.

2. Help w/ naming, if there was a naming issue. It’s somewhat common.

Hah, I was about to suggest what @pshanew just said. 🙂

Will have to try that again, also. You guys know how quickly things change on both TVDB and TMDB. It’s a huge mess, especially when it come to specials. Pretty much every metadata refresh I have to edit things. The Plex guys are not to blame for this, though. It’s just the nature of anyone being able to edit on those sites. What I don’t get is why they don’t simply certify and lock the shows that are entirely done. I do see that very rarely on TVDB.

What bugs the crap out of me is that lately on TVDB they won’t allow specials created after a show ended any longer. This is also not consistent, though…

FYI… For Hillside the external id for TVDB stored in TMDB is incorrect [https://www.themoviedb.org/tv/3889-hillside/edit?active\_nav\_item=external\_ids](https://www.themoviedb.org/tv/3889-hillside/edit?active_nav_item=external_ids)

It might be messing things up with the plex backend. It’ll need fixing which I’ll do later myself when I’m at my pc unless someone has done it first.

I’ll also check the others incase they are wrong.

There’s definitely bad data for Fury Files - the bogus entry named “dupe” at TVDB itself.

doku, while you’re at it, could you please also check Snuff Box? TVDB currently has two entries, [Search - TheTVDB.com](https://www.thetvdb.com/search?menu%5Btype%5D=series&query=snuff%20box), but the first one should be the correct and permanent one. Perhaps TMDB also links to the wrong one here.

Okay so the easy stuff. The external ids linked from TMDB to TVDB for the following shows where incorrect and I’ve fixed them so they go to the correct records.

Hillside → [https://www.themoviedb.org/tv/3889-hillside/changes](https://www.themoviedb.org/tv/3889-hillside/changes)
Fury Files → [https://www.themoviedb.org/tv/103396-fury-files/changes](https://www.themoviedb.org/tv/103396-fury-files/changes)
Snuff Box → [Snuff Box (TV Series 2006-2006) - Changes — The Movie Database (TMDB)](https://www.themoviedb.org/tv/2602-snuff-box/changes)

**It will take 24-48 hours for the plex backend system to pickup these changes.**

@VBB I agree with your assessment on Snuff Box, the second one ([Snuffbox - TheTVDB.com](https://thetvdb.com/series/snuffbox)) looks like a dup and should be deleted.

Now, the somewhat hard stuff. Fury Files on TMDB does not have much episode data and the ordering looks different to TVDB. I’ll need to investigate this one and see what is the CORRECT aired order as changing this on TMDB can get you into trouble if your not careful. I’ll come back to that when I have some time. However, regardless with the correct external id I fixed above plex should consolidate the metadata now anyhow.

`Breakthrough` looks to be missing an entire season on TMDB, basically this one from TVDB ([Breakthrough - Aired Order - Season 2016 - TheTVDB.com](https://thetvdb.com/series/breakthrough/seasons/official/2016)) and also the seasons are named differently. I’ll likely not do anything with that show as I don’t know it and will just leave it up to someone else who does. I have however linked the Season 1 episodes on TMDB to TVDB ([Breakthrough S1E1 (2015) - Changes — The Movie Database (TMDB)](https://www.themoviedb.org/tv/64220-breakthrough/season/1/episode/1/changes) as an example) but this show needs a bit more work beyond my knowledge of it.
