Anyone know how to fix this error on a Readynas 316?

2018-05-14 13:31:11 CHECKVERSION :: git rev-parse HEAD returned : (128) fatal: ambiguous argument ‘HEAD’: unknown revision or path not in the working tree.  
Use ‘–’ to separate paths from revisions, like this:  
‘git […] – […]’  
HEAD  
2018-05-14 13:31:11 CHECKVERSION :: We can’t proceed with the update. Unable to check remote DB version. Error: AssertionError(u’Commit hash wrong length: 4 hash: None’,)
