Crazy! I can confirm that videos I added a few weeks ago that were identified as 576p but they are now 480p.
About 3 or 4 years ago, the same problem came up, but in reverse… 480p video and SD video was being identified as 576p. My concern was that if it’s being identified incorrectly, how does that affect the way apps like the Roku, which automatically select the version to play by the resolution/bitrate applied in the quality settings.
I was ensured the resolution was merely cosmetic, and the bitrate was the only defining factor.
Turned out that was wrong, particularly on the Roku, and none of my files would direct play to anyone who had the setting at 480p/1.5mbps because the resolution was above that set in the quality, even though the bitrate was well below the 1.5mbps.
Makes you wonder why Plex would go down this road again, fixing something that’s not broken.
I’ve asked at least once if the new Roku app requires that both resolution and bitrates are requirements in the new app so that I know how to encode multiple versions for friends who have a poor internet connection. No answer yet.
Here’s the thread from years gone by. It quickly derailed into a “You’re an idiot because you encode files with this method, and my way is best” thread.
