# Slow Tune on Plex LiveTV

I recently bought a Lifetime Plex Pass. I really like the software overall and think it was an awesome purchase. Though I recently got into the LiveTV/DVR portion of the software and have been having really slow tuning times to a real HDHomerun and an Emulator one. I know it’s not the signal as after it locks on to the signal it is almost immediately streamed. The issue is the time for Plex to request the stream from the HDHomerun is taking really long. I also know it isn’t Transcoding and this has been happening on Wired/Wireless clients from AppleTV, FireTV/AndroidTV, PC, and Roku all have the same issue. I am not sure what logs you would like so please let me know. The Server currently has an abundance of resources. The OS is Ubuntu 20.04 Server.

How long is it taking? I’ve accepted 15+ seconds as “normal” tuning time in Plex. This is on a wired network. I usually switch to the HDHomeRun app if I’d like quicker tuning times. The HDHR app only offers antenna tuning on Roku, but can tune cablecard channels on Android.

It’s normally around 19-20 seconds with my testing. Though, I remember this being a lot faster I could be wrong. It just seems very slow as Plex doesn’t even request the data until 17-19 seconds in and it normally only takes 1-2 seconds for it to load in. Could you think of a way to speed this up a setting, an SSD, what do you think?

6-7 seconds from the time I hit play on guide
Plex for Windows version 1.41.0.2876-e960c9ca direct stream
Ubuntu running on one spinning disk, only used for DVR
8GB of RAM and i3-4130T so low power CPU but good Singe Thread Rating of 1600+
The HDHR app is 5 seconds for a tune.

Yeah, that would be my goal in time for tuning. I currently have a Proxmox VM with 4 Cores and 8GB of RAM I wondering how I can achieve the times you have I will have to dig deeper.

I’m curious about this as well. My server runs in Windows, but for a month I was running Unraid on the same hardware and I swear LiveTV was tuning faster. Maybe it was closer to the metal. I might experiment on both _much_ older hardware and an M1 and see if there’s a difference.

Yeah, I plan on using Plex LiveTV as the main system for our home and 20secs to tune is ridiculous!

Whatever the Plex gods did that fixed it! No update or anything just out of the blue it was fixed. It’s now pinging and requesting data quicker I am at a near 2 seconds for tuning!
