Some trailers showing as trailers and some as extras

I try to always add a trailer for each movie. They are all in MP4 format. But sometimes they get recognized as trailers and sometimes just as another extra of the type “trailer”. I don’t know what’s the problem. My folder structure is: “Movies/Title (Year)/” and inside that folder I have my movie “Title (Year)” and the trailer “Title -trailer”. I am very thorough with this, I like to keep consistency. As you can see in the screenshots I uploaded below, sometimes they appear as extras, sometimes as trailers. This two movies were added at the same time. Refreshing metadata doesn’t work. Analyzing doesn’t work. Removing from the library, doing the plex dance, and adding again doesn’t work.

Can you inspect the Plex XML info of both movies and tell me what is inside the guid="..." properties?

Sure.

Inuyashiki movie: guid="com.plexapp.agents.imdb://tt6340500?lang=es"
Inuyashiki trailer: guid="file:///F:/Movies/Inuyashiki%20%282018%29/Inuyashiki%20-trailer.mp4"

Oscar Wilde movie: guid="com.plexapp.agents.imdb://tt2404639?lang=es"
Oscar Wilde trailer: guid="file:///F:/Movies/La%20importancia%20de%20llamarse%20Oscar%20Wilde%20%282018%29/La%20importancia%20de%20llamarse%20Oscar%20Wilde%20-trailer.mp4"

Could you check both trailer files for the presence of embedded meta tags? (the ‘Title’ tag in particular)

Here it is the general part from Mediainfo

I’ve just added 2 more. Again, in one of them the trailer got recognised. The other just shows it as an extra.

Commenting in order not to get this forgotten.

It keeps happening. The ratio is more like 3 trailers detected as extra for each trailer detected as trailer.

Ok, I think I found the solution. I think that plex needs to first find local assets and then match the movie to whatever agent. If you have it setup the other way, it recognizes the extras correctly but doesn’t match the trailer as a trailer.

I think what happened with my two uploads it’s that probably Inuyashiki got a bad match with the Plex Agent, so it matched, then found the local assets, and then I forced a new match with the local assets already found.

I have to test this further though.

Edit: after placing the agent “Local Media Assets” on top of “Plex Movie”, just refreshing metadata fixed all the problems. Before, refreshing metadata did nothing.

Keep in mind that LMA at the top will give you trouble if your main movie has embedded metadata which contain nonsense or conflict with the file name.
So make sure to either strip them out completely or edit them to perfection.

This one works for most of them (except actors): mp3tag

I’ll take that in account if I encounter any problem, however as this is the only workaround for now until a patch that fixes it, I’ll keep it this way.
